BRYAN:
A couple of us are wondering why we can’t open your story “Joba ties a ribbon –” story on the Yankees home page. Sure would appreciate access.

Hope it has good news on Joba’s game because so many of the posters (who loved him last year) now want him “back in the pen where he belongs”. These are the short-timers who want all their wins now and are not looking long term. Joba does have the quality to be that 1 or 2 man in the future. He does not belong in the bull pen.

My biggest concern isn’t Hobo, he’ll pitch himself all the way to waivers. It’s Mo. I’m more than willing to chalk it up to just a couple bad outings. But he hasn’t pitched since the BS against the SUCHS last Friday. Rest isn’t an issue. Maybe underuse is? Kind of like a few season’s ago when we were on our way to scoring 10,000 runs in a season and he didn’t have save opps? I understand the Mo=1-hit. I expect him to give up a hit. I’m fine with that. But let’s face it, last night was another BS. I know, the stats don’t indicate that. But when you look at WHO’S up there pitching and in the position he’s in, it’s nothing new for him. A 1-out save is the same as a 4-out save. Nothing new to Mo. He’s seen it all, done it all, been in every conceivable situation there is. The same situation he was in in Boston last Friday. And maybe it’s just a bumple in the road. But the fact is, at 29 or 30, it’s easier to look at it as a bump. At 39 tho, you look at it a bit more askew and have to wonder…..

Joba pitched well today. Look at his line scores. I had to leave when he was ahead 8-1 and it ended up 8-6! This guy does have the skills to be a successful starter. Leave him there please. And who said he lost his intensity, Did you see his face and reaction when Swisher hit his first home? Joba wants to win.

Well I STILL THINK WE SHOULD HANG GIRARDI!!
But I don’t like the fact that this team scores BIG in 1 inning and then NEVER produces the rest of the GAME!! So the blown save/game would have to fall on ALL THE PLAYERS HEADS………
Think about it what if say we scored in maybe 2 or 3 more innings and scored maybe 12 runs, BUT NO they lay down and stare into space …

JUST LIKE GIRARDI!!!!!!

Like

Still think Tomko could fill the long reliever bill. He has done it before in that role. Just think what this blog would have been like had this team blown the lead and lost. The fans would have been calling for a hanging of Girardi.

seeknay,
I agree, but WHAT GUYS infront of him, there is NOBODY!!
I have been saying this since the Spring how can you come into the season with NO LONG RELIEF pitcher/pitchers in the pen… Every team has one even the Yankee teams of the past. Man like I said this could be a LONG YEAR!

Like

Just cannot believe there isn’t someone in the minors that can get people out. Every year it’s the same problem and Crashman cannot seem to find a solution.

Like

Erickson he goes through this spell every year and it is usually at the start of the year. Mo will be fine as the summer heats up. The guys in front of him scare the daylights out of me. Way TOO much inconsistency and Alba is way way way over his head. An 8.18 ERA as a spot reliever is minor league. He needs to go to AAA,

Like

But I agree WITHOUT a GOOD MIDDLE RELIEF we are DEAD anyway!!!This is going to be a VERY LONG year, A VERY LONG YEAR…
Thanks AGAIN CRASHMAN!

NO not free yet, I still will Not get on the HAPPY BUS yet. Man I love Mo but I am starting to think we are going to see this alot this year, he just seems NOT I guess in his normal zone. Maybe age, maybe tired I don’t know but maybe when he pitches more often he HOPEFULLY will settle down, BUT……

Like

You are right randgmoulton, this pen is still unsettled. Rivera will come around but some of these guys in front of him continue to struggle. Middle relief has got to be dealt with or it is going to be a frustrating year.

Nothing’s ever sure with this team even with a 7 run lead in the ninth inning. This Al…. kid really is in over his head. He needs to go back to Scranton. And Mo gives us another homer. He blew the last save he pitched in. Boy the Yankees have to keep it a nail biter right up to the end. Coke did a good job in relief. Al….couldn’t get anything across the plate and when he did he got dinged. Anyway they pulled out a win but doesn’t give you a lot of confidence going into a series with the Angels, and then The Bo Sox again. The Yanks aren’t home free yet by a long shot!

Surely there is someone down in AAA that can throw better then Al the Idiot. What a waste!!!

WOW I hope he got it out tonight!! But still ALBABOOBOO MUSt go ALREADY he is a BUM!!!!

Like

Mo did. The two baserunners were Alba’s

Like

Did Mo give up another home run?? or was it ALAABOOBOO

Like

Candy he probably wasn’t ready mentally for the 9th. I mean a 7 run lead ought to hold up. Instead Al the Idiot comes on and can’t get 3 dam outs.

Like

Mo seemed to smile when Granderson 3 run shot cleared the fence. Hah, maybe he wants Alba out of the pen too

Like

A blowout ends with a hold your breathe ninth. After Hughes and Joba’s performances, if I am the Wanger I’m a little bit nervous.

What the H E L L did Rivera do tonight?

Well that was a humbling 9th. Mo didn’t look ready to pitch there.

Albaladejo gave up all the runs?? GET RID OF HIS *** ALREADY!!
This Bullpen is going to kill us this year..

mm440 how are YOU SO CALM!!!

WHAT I Just got home who gave up all the runs in the 9th. WHAT C R A P O I D or combo did that???

Damn it this is what ticks me off more than anything, a 7 run lead in the 9th and this Al the Idiot can’t get 3 outs. Why Rivera wears down by the end of the year. Idiot relief!!!!

Like

8-1 up, relief pitchers need to man up and just challenge the hitters. Detroit aren’t going to score 7 runs 1st, 2nd pitch swinging.

Like

This guy needs to be sent to Scranton!!!!

Like

If Girardi has to summon Mo tonight in the 9th this Idiot on the mound is put on waivers.

Santa has one more innings to be the first since ARod to hit three home runs in a game. He has been the big + on this team, though he does strike out a lot, but he is having a go all the time and really puts in with his enthusiasm.

Where are all the slammers from yesterday. MM40 all day yesterday slammed this side in I feel the most disgusting manner and his comments were out of line and should not be allowed to post. Is it that you can only handle winning .Remember to learn how to win you have to know how to lose.
I for one thought your comments were way way out of line.

Joba to the who— Joba what? Where? He looks better in the bull– what? AAAAAAAAHHH SHADDUP! Ace in the hole. AND he’s having control problems… imagine how he’ll be when his control is back?… praise God, this young man is blessed.

Like

Joba has settled in and pitching well. Swish is connecting tonight and driving in runs which he hadn’t been doing the past few games. Different guys are producing tonight. Still waiting for Tex to start lighting up the scoreboard given what he’s being paid and the write up when we got him. Let’s keep this kind of ball going, with good strong pitching and consistent offence. Again, once the bull pen is tested in the later innings we’ll see what happens without Bruney. Anyway, things look like they might be starting to turn around. Let’s not start the parade yet however.

Like

Getting Swisher looks like a great move. For once I guess, well done Mr Cashman.

Like

If Joba keeps falling apart, why has he not lost yet this season and has an ERA under 4? He doesn’t have to be an ace to warrant greater value than a setup man. If he’s not closing, I’ll take Joba the starter everyday. I guess Porcello should be sent to the pen too yeah? SWWWWWWWWWIIIIIIIIIISHER.

Like

Boy, Joba is certainly nerve wracking. In and out of trouble in the 3rd. Walking four batters. Behind the pitch count for most of the hitters. You can’t get behind 2-0 on good hitters and stay out of trouble. EVentually it’s going to kill you. One run fortunately. It could have been 4 or 5. I think everyone is right who suggests Joba should be in the bullpen or set up for Mariano rather than a starter. He hasn’t got the experience or the confidence yet to start. He’s still more of a pitcher who can give a good couple of innings and then things start to fall apart. To leave him in as a starter at this point I think is a mistake. Maybe if Wang gets things together Hughes could start in place of Joba and put Joba into the pen for later innings. Hopefully the Yankees didn’t shoot their bolt last night scoring 11 runs and bomb out tonight. Let’s see how this one develops.

The House that Jeter Built.

So says Torii Hunter:

“When you went into the old Yankee Stadium, all you felt was history,” Hunter said. “You felt that — you felt the ghosts, all the spirits around the place. I’m sure you won’t feel that in the new Yankee Stadium because there’s no ghosts. Derek Jeter’s still alive. That’s going to be the house [Jeter] built.”
