4/25 – Yankees at Red Sox

Underway here at Fenway, where Nick Swisher put the Yankees on top early with a single to center off Josh Beckett after a hard-fought nine-pitch at-bat and Jorge Posada added another run with a RBI single to left. It’s a steamy afternoon on Yawkey Way as A.J. Burnett gets set to start his day of work.

Rivera is the new Farnsworth, every outing an adventure, management needs to face reality, he is going downhill fast!
Staff ERA is last in the AL, how can all the pitchers be so
terrible? Maybe it’s the coaching staff. How about looking for
a new pitching coach! Red Sox come up with Van Every, another find from their farm system. The Yanks farm system?
Clagget, Coke, etc……. Maybe need to look at the drafting
and scouting, the starting lineup is getting old fast!!

I said it last season and will say it again. BLOW GIRARDI OUT! Last season the excuse was injuries when it was Girardi, so far Girardi’s stupid moves have cost them some games again. He just doesn’t seem to have a clue as to when to leave someone in or when to pull them. He still refuses to bunt with men on 1st and 2nd with no-one out in crucial situations and we end up hitting into double plays. To add insult to injury the players themselves are just not responding to him. You can say what you want about him and his experience but he was not able to do the job last year and the Yanks are on their way to another poor season unless he is gone! It is NOT TOO early to do the right thing!

Don’t push the panic button yet! The curtain is still up. With only 18 games played there may still be a chance.. What in he** is wrong with you people, I mean those of you thinking the season is over… RELAX!! Now if this were mid July I might be joining the bandwagon, But man this is April. I agree we were expecting a better start, They are equal to or better than their
records of the past 3 seasons. Joe has made more than his share of blunders, But he can’t bat and he doesn’t pitch. The players are just not performing to their abilities. (Money may be the answer) What is their incentive, only the fact that if they do the job they may win a World Series. Once this happens maybe the start to play winning baseball. I hope that happens soon..
GO YANKEES!!

No telling how long it will take Girardi to figure out the strengths and weaknesses of all of the new faces on his roster. In that regard, we miss the experience and intuition of Torre!

When Torre was no longer the Yankees’ manager, I did not think it was bad for the Yankees. Although he proved to be a good manager (and I don’t think he was the problem), I did agree on the fact that he was no longer part of the solution. It has been evident that since 2001, the Yankees have not been the team we used to watch. Therefore, it was clear that the Yankees needed another manager who could bring a “new era”… it was clear that the new manager and coaching staff should be the solution.

However, so far does Girard seem to be the solution? I don’t think so. Last year we faced a lot of factors; however, this year there is no reason. Even without the injuries, we still have a more-than-fine team in the paper, which cannot be seen in the field. What? Are you ready to wait for another year to see what new free (and expensive) players can be brought?

This team deserves to be BASHED by every FAN, SPORTS WRITER, TALK SHOW HOST… If you spend like the Yankees to get all the FREE AGENT TALENT that they BOUGHT they deserve EVERY THING THAT IS SAID AND WRITTEN about them. We as fans have EVERY right to SLAM them any way we want, IF they want to gharge THE HIGHEST TICKET PRICES IN ANY SPORT we have the right to scream for the GENERAL MANAGERS HEAD or for the HEAD OF THE MENTAL MIDGET GIRARDI!
HE is no MOTAVATOR, he has proved that to us since last APRIL , LAST APRIL!!!
He seems to pick the CRAPPIEST Coaches in BASEBALL, WTF and why.
Well I CAN NOT WAIT UNTIL he is GONE!!
THIS TEAM NEEDS A SHAKEUP NOW not in JULY when it is TO LATE!!!

bronxkidd,
We have a GOOD TEAM??? What are you talking about. What Bullpen are you talking about?? HOW many runs have we they given up already! You want to ride this year with them? COME ON!! WAKE UP…
Why give Girardi that long, I guess you want a repeat of last year! HOW FAST YOU FORGET! REGROUP? WHAT? Girardi plays 2 A ball players and bats them back to back in the line up, OH YEA great so the bottom of the order is an automatic CANCER!
Cashman is NOTHING all I here is LOOK at the signings he did this year? HMM I Think my 15 year old son could have gotten any one of these players—IT ONLY TAKE MONEY!!! Thats all any of these players want! The Steinys really overplayed their hand this year and it will cost them. The stadium is NOT SELLING OUT, and if this team continues to play this way IT WON’T…
Girardi should be given until the middle of MAY to TRY AND TURN this team around BUT NO LONGER!!! THIS IS UNEXCEPTABLE!!

UMM Remember LAST YEAR!! All I heard was ITS EARLY YET ITS EARLY YET, Well I DON’T THINK SO!!!

Like

Yes Matthew, I thought the Yankees could go into Fenway and win the series, easily. Up 4-2 in the 9th, and today’s game– why wouldn’t they win? Because– because there is no Santa Claus and ever since the 2003 WS, the Yankees have been the choke team we all thought the Red Sox used to be.

I used to experience great glee tell my Boston friends that the Red Sox were the only team to teach the Heimlich maneuver during Spring training. Try and imagine how much fun my Boston friends are having quoting myself to me.

When you’re up what? 8-0, luck and bad calls have nothing to do with it. Pitching, and playing to win, do.

Like

Sorry bronxkidd. It’s more than bad luck and bad calls from the umpire for the yankees right now. And Boston got the right hits at the right time and deserved to win. You can’t just put it down to “luck” for Boston. Great you’re so positive but somehow I don’t think 9-9 at this time of year is where we expected the Yankees to be with the high priced help we brought in this year. We didn’t bring home the guys who were on base and we haven’t done that all year. We haven’t got the hits when we needed them. We haven’t got starting pitching consistently from other than Petitte and A.J. prior to tonight. The bull pen has been off most nights and Rivera blew it for us last night. Tex is not hitting up to what we expected. We can talk about him being slow to get started but I think it’s more than that. Does he fit New York and the Yankees? Only time will tell. How will he like playing “second fiddle” to ARod when he comes back? Jeter and Cano and Swish have given us good offence and have got off to a good start. There’s been some poor management at times by Girardi, some bad decisions and there have been injuries which are hurting us and a few are long term. If Yankees are not 3rd place or lower by July then I’ll “eat my hat”, my yankees hat! They haven’t got the pitching or hitting or management of the Jays or the Red Sox. Said good night before but after reading bronxkidd’s comments I had to get in one more shot.

Like

At last, I was able to watch a Yankee’s game. Yesterday a “comprehensible” loss; today, a shame.

After 18 games the Yankees simply doesn’t look to be playing well. Yes, there have been injuries; nevertheless, almost any team disere to have a team with the remaining players that the Yankees have in a day-to-day basis. Don’t you think the problem is Joe Girardi and his coaching staf? I mean, he was a fine Yankee pleayer and a fine Manager for the Marlins, but today for me it simply seems that the shoes are too big for him.

So far the Yankees have a record 9-9; but the way they are playing, it does not seem that they will reach playoffs for the second year in a row.

Like

Well, I can tell you that today’s game was a mixture of bad luck, frustration and bad calls by the umpires — the last one is no excuse. The point is, we’ve lost to our hated rival again, and I hate to say it, but the Red Sox were once at the bottom of the league. Now the Rays are there; Toronto is in first place. So… it’s a long season and, unlike last year, we have a good team, it just doesn’t show when you lose. Boston played just as terribly, but won. I’ll tell you why they won… they got lucky. From Posada being picked off at third, to Posada’s interference call, to the blown call at second ( Ellsbury ). They got lucky and won.

We’re certainy not at the point where Girardi’s job is at jeopardy, it’s too early. That’s almost like firing Joe Maddon of the Rays right now. Come back to me in June or July, if we’re in third place, THEN his job will be on the line. For now.. he’s got those two months to regroup this team, get them on the right mindset and get them to play a good brand of baseball. 9-9, for now…

Like

“To pin all your hopes on ARod coming back is stupid” Probably, but if he stays healthy, which given his past we have no reason to suspect severly otherwise, Ranson—>A-Rod is a massive upgrade. Factor in some slow starts by Tex, CC, Matsui who might all kick-in at once, and A-Rod’s return could see a good run start

Like

Good night everyone. Just turned the game off. Can’t watch any more of this crap. 16-11. Another blow out. This is all too common this year. We are in serious trouble no doubt about it, in spite of CAndy runts optimism! See ya tomorrow(if I can’t find anything better to do with my time!)

Like

Candy runts: I hope you’re right but this club is in disarray right now and I’m not sure they’re going to climb out of it. To pin all your hopes on ARod coming back is stupid. One guy isn’t going to turn this team around. Who knows how long he’ll be back before he might be injured again. Who plays third base then, Berroa? There’s a lot of negatives on this team right now and to turn it all into a positive is going to take a miracle. Maybe you should call Cashman and tell him you’d like to take Girardi’s job. To lose a series to Boston at this time of year is humiliating to a true Yankee fan!

Marte out. Rookie Robertson in. I guess he can’t do any worse than the rest of the bull pen who are supposed to be experienced pitchers. One more inning to get 3 runs to win. Don’t see it happening, not with the way this game has gone tonight. It wasn’t that long ago that Boston was in last place in the division. They struggled in ST. Now they’re firing on all cylinders. It’s going to become a two horse race in the division with Yanks, Jays and Orioles bringing up the rear. I know it’s early in the year but with the way the yankees are playing, with injuries, and the way they’re managed and how the Jays and Sox are playing, you get a good feel as to what kind of team we have and what we can look forward to again this year. We were pegged to finish up front with all the big name and high priced talent we brought in. It ain’t going according to plan for sure.

Like

It’s amusing how quickly some of you hit the panic button. Exactly why would it matter so much if we lost 2 games in April to one of the best sides in baseball and fell to a 9-8 record? It’s April…the SP & RP can only improve, we have one of the league’s best hitters coming back very soon. You all berate Cashman et al for making bonehead moves but some of you would have traded anyone and everything at the sight of one notch in the loss column

We can’t even get the right call from the umpire. Obviously the replay showed Ellsbury out at second base and the ump called him safe and on the hit from Pedroia he comes in to score. The blunders, the horror keep piling up. Now 13-11 and I can’t see the Yankees coming back to win this one. They’ve been behind the 8 ball all game playing catch up. And now they’re bringing in Marte! This could end up 15-11 before it’s over.

Deja Vu!! Runners on 2nd and 3rd and only one out. Melky gets a little slow grounder and Posada gets caught between 3rd and home. Then Gardner grounds out and what do you know? The Yankees didn’t bringing the guys on base home again!! They blow chance after chance to take the game and can’t get it done. Matsui hits a ball high off the outfield fence and unfortunately you have Posada on first who can’t run. Anyone with some speed should have got home on that hit. It’s all about wasted opportunities. And you know who’s warming up in the bull pen? Yes, Marte! Another one run loss to the Sox? Excruciating! Where do you go to hide? To the bar? ok as long as there are no Red Sox fans there.

Here we go again. What a crazy game! The Yankees bull pen screws up again, giving up a 3 run homer to Lowell after intentionally walking Bay. Now 12-10. Soon if they don’t bring the rookies in to pitch they’re going to have to give the ball to Swisher. This is gut wrenching to watch. The Yankees are in deep do-do and I don’t see them getting out of it any time soon. Is this Red Sox team this good, or are the Yankees that bad?

Like

The problem is that Jorge Posada is the catcher. I’m even starting to believe we threw away 2004 because of him. All of these relief pitchers shouldn’t be taken out of the game, Jorge should.

Like

ahaha yessssssssss, now we can throw away the game all over again

Like

I don’t think you can criticize the farm. Given the low draft picks, the constant departure of prospects for the next big waste of money, SWB and Trenton have had some decent results. We just don’t have the patience or the quality of our big-league roster to ease in these guys.

Like

Typical of the Yankees lately. Men on 2nd and 3rd with one out and Jeter at 3-2 and whiffs at a fast ball down around his ankles. Did he look stupid or what! It’s that kind of stuff that is really frustrating the fans and that is causing Yanks to lose. They can’t bring guys on base, home. All he needed was a sacrifice fly at least, to get one run in and tie the game and he can’t get that done. It’s just one thing after another that adds up to a lousy season and they’re on their way if they don’t somehow pull out of it.

Like

randgmoulton,
I think alot has to do with the Spring conditioning by Girardi and his pitching coach. Seems a huge problem of NOT being ready for the start of the season. Girardi won’t give up on anybody thats his problem.. Remember his pal last year Farnsworth??? Well it always something or someone with him… HE IS JUST A MENTAL MIDGET!!! SIMPLE!

Like

I’ll tell you randgmoulton what the hell goes on in the minor leagues for this franchise? Does anyone know how to develop Pitching down there? Our young pitchers STINK, have no clue how to pitch in given situations and have ZERO guts. Again what the hell do these idiots in the minor leagues do to earn their salaries? Oh I forgot the #1 idiot Crashman probably hired these guys.

Like

Another nice outing by Veras!! When is Girardi going to give up on this guy and send him packing. How many times does he have to screw up before he gets traded or sent to the minors. One has to wonder. Is this pitching problem due to the pitchers not being able to execute or do we have the wrong pitching coach and wrong manager? Another bases loaded situation and another lead for the Sox. I’m almost getting to the place of not even watching any more games until or if the yankees start putting a winning streak together. it’s just too frustrating and embarrassing! And when are we going to get some kind of return on the millions we are paying Tex to hit home runs and drive in runs with men in scoring position?

yeah that does seem to be a Marlins mantra, protect the kids for tomorrow. Melancon’s here now, he’s going to be pitching sooner or later. Here we go again! Up six runs and a grand slam, another homer and the game is tied in the 5th. it’s shaping up for another loss to the Sox. Usually A.J. was a sure win up to tonight. Now we can’t really depend on anyone to give us a sure start. And the bull pen has been struggling all year. Last night Mariano blew it in thye 9th and Marte gives us a walk off home run to lose the game. Man, this club’s psyche is pretty fragile. It’s shaping up already for a two team battle in this division between the Red Sox and the Jays. All that money the Yankees management spent and we’re now mired in 3rd place and will be caught soon by the Rays if we keep losing. With injuries and call ups from the minor leagues this Yankee team is looking very vulnerable. This is not pretty to see!
