4/6 – Yankees at Orioles – Opening Day

Hello from Baltimore, where the tarp is on the field, the stadium lights are on and the rain has tapered off to a light drizzle. CC didn’t have his groove, Nady screwed up, Ransom didn’t look that great at 3B, and 5 runs and 11 hits turned out to be not enough offense. But you know what? CC will be back, Nady won’t be making that kind of bonehead mistake on a regular basis, and A-Rod will return soon enough. More importantly, Posada reminded us of why we missed his offense in ’08, Matsui connected in a big way, Jeter was a hit machine, and Canó walked…TWICE. I like what I see, folks. 1 down, 161 to go.

Sux fans should be the last people to be talking–or singing–about buying championships.

Golf,
I am not concerned about CC’s start. I will be concerned if he is hurt which we may not find out if he plays through it.
I am concerned about our bullpen and the lack of a Ruben Sierra type on the bench.

Baltimore schooled CC and the Yanks out there. Fine, it was always going to happen at some point or another. The thing is CC needs to rebound from this in his next start. This could simply be a blip, but we will have to wait and see.

Yankees can’t win every opening day, even the best of teams will settle for losing a third of their games. Sure, Red Sox fans are most likely getting drunk and singing something about not buying championships but let’s not stoop to their level and read too much into one game.

its the first game of the season leave it alone!

WHAT THE HELL!! FIRST GAME OF THE YEAR! Will you guys give it a rest? They can’t win 162 games in a row! CC had a bad start. Fine. Get it out of the way. But you here are already writing off the season after one game!

Yea but I see too many holes on THIS team. Its like they were NOT ready for the season to begin, they looked lost on D-Fence and they KNOW they have to start good this year?
They just looked I don’t know DEAD???
I know it is only the first game BUT?? They have to do something at 3rd base, and here we go again TRYING to score with runners in scoring position???
Thats the problem that killed them ladt year, I HOPE THEY TRUN IT AROUND ON WEDNESDAY!

Sorry Matt, i see your point but out of Pena and Berroa, I’ll take Pena. There was never any consideration for Loretta or Lamb.

I sure would love to have Sheff on the bench in this situation but maybe Swisher can fill that role.

Like

One thing is for sure, we lost Giambi, Abreu and Arod’s hurt, we added Texiera.

Yea but why the Hot water bottle on his rib cage? Girardi had to know about that!
We’ll see on the post game if he knew, IF HE DID he should be STONED?????

Like

I like what I’ve seen out of Gardenhouser all day.
In fairness to Girardi, Torre didn’t always know when Clemens was hurt, Clemens tough it out most of the time.

Nady no doubt and for good reason has copped plenty prior to his last at bat., down 6-5 rinners on Ist and 3Rd one out and what does he do hit into a double play. That will I am sure really impress his doubters.

Well if he was and GIRARDI new it. I HOPE SOMEONE STONES GIRARDI!!!!

This team better come back and win or CC will NEVER HERE THE END of it from all over the blogasphere!!!!

I think CC is hurt too. He was taking alot of time between pitches and seemed to be in some pain. The look on his face reminded me of Clemens the last year.

Like

urghhhhhhhh Nady you f***wit…crud pitching, poor defence, rally-killing baserunning…I can almost touch that World Series already

I know this is the FIRST game of many , BUT after the STELLER year they had last year – YA WOULD THINK THEY WOULD LIKE TO START THIS YEAR OFF ON FIRE???? I guess Girardi put the fire OUT TO EARLY!!!!

RCN golf–Is the golf for your love of playing golf. If so it is my passion at moment, although one game I nail every single drive and short irons to par 3s, but my short game goes, then the next day it is the opposite and cant hit a drive but short game improves, then my bunker shots go. But that is golf.

I have only at this stage MLB TV which last year the coverage was excellent, this year game 1 I could only rate the coverage 3/10.

Sabbathia now in big trouble in 5th already a run in and now runners on ist and second and NONE OUT. He is looking as though he could not strike out my grandmother who is 93. 4-1 down already.

Aussie Bryan,

Do you have DirecTV in Aussie land?? The MLB Package is the way to go. It’s also on ESPN.

Like

What the hell?!?!?! Has CC completely lost the strike zone????

Like

Not a good start, third innings runners on Ist and 3rd none out and one run on a sac fly, this occurred a lot in 08. Then Sabbathia allows 3 in the third right after again a common occurence in 08.Yhough in defence Matsui appeared a little unlucky to just miss a home run.

I have given up trying to watch via MLBTV as the coverage was the worst it has ever been and since I have reverted to our radio coverage. Maybe the MLB coverage will improve for tomorrows game after I have upgrage my speed and band width, wish me luck.

Aussie Bryan

Has anyone heard from Chaz Bedlam as he was conspicuously absent during the off season. I hope he is OK.

Like

2 wild pitches in an inning???? Come on CC!

In a 2-1 game, I’d rather put in Pena than error prone Berroa. If Ransom is terrible, he might get waived when Arod returns.

Bryan,
you mentioned in your email inbox that Cabrera would see action 4 times a week at all 3 OF positions. Where does that leave Swisher? Pinch hitter/1B?

Fan Confidence Poll: April 6th, 2009-By Mike Axisa http://riveraveblues.com/2009/04/fan-confidence-poll-april-6th-2009-9848/

Having been to good of an off season for me I lost my brother and my best friend passed. They were die hard Red Sox and Dodgers fans. I will miss the back and forth we had. We use to get so mad at each other we would talk for a week, especially last year. But enough of self pity. Let me see if i can pick an augment in blog world. Giradi should put Damon in rightfield. Less throws. Damon can’t throw 50 feet. Less ball hit to right. shorter distance in Yankee stadium.
