Yankees make eight cuts

YANKEES: Reassigned OF Doug Bernier, 1B/OF Shelley Duncan, IF Justin Leone, OF Todd Linden, C P.J. Pillittere, RHP Dave Robertson, OF John Rodriguez and C Chris Stewart to Minor League camp.

“What we want these guys to do is to go get some good at-bats,” Joe Girardi said. “There’s a good chance some of them are going to New York with us to play, and it’s not fair that they only have one at-bat a day at this point.”

Meanwhile, it may be more than a three-man race between Brett Tomko, Alfredo Aceves and Dan Giese. Girardi changed his tune after the game, hinting that there could be other things the Yankees are considering.

That would almost certainly be carrying both Phil Coke and Jonathan Albaladejo as quasi-long relievers, and not carrying any one of the three of Tomko, Aceves or Giese. He did say they will still carry 12 pitchers.

“Some boys have pitched really well in camp,” Girardi said. “We have hard decisions to make. We’re not going to rush into it.”

There are 31 players left in big league camp.

an anxiety disorder……almost laughable that you can be on the DL for that. 15 days won’t change it. Just release him at that rate.

The Tigers just placed Willis on the DL with anxiety disorder, and when I read that it got me thinking. Now, to place a player on a DL, I assume you would need medical proof and a procedure of some sort because otherwise you could just claim whatever and free up the roster space without risking losing the player. Could someone please clarify that procedure for me? Like are there medical officers working for MLB that approve moves to the DL ? Thanks.

I think Pena has a decent shot to make the team. Berroa actually had a good spring which makes it tough, but players usually play upto their career averages and not above them. Berroa’s averages are pretty low. I mean you are talking about a guy who hasn’t hit above .234 since 2005. His defense is average.

I think Pena could certainly manage a .230 batting average and might be better than average with his glove. I’d say he has a pretty good chance. He’s also more viable long-term which may give him an edge.

Yeah I agree with Monument Park Talk, will Pena make the team?

What are the chances of Ramiro Pena making the Opening Day roster? I really like the way he has been playing so far. I also think if Jeter is injured he should be the guy the Yankees turn to.
