FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 18, 2009

3rd Annual Spring Fest at PNC Field April 4th
2009 Individual game tickets go on sale, former baseball great Darryl Strawberry on hand to sign autographs

Moosic, PA – Spring officially begins on March 20th but the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees are thinking summer and are more than ready for warmer temperatures, longer days and a brand new baseball season.

The Yankees will host their third annual Spring Fest from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, giving fans a chance to purchase single-game tickets, meet a former Yankee and get a “taste” of the new concessions at PNC Field.

Spring Fest will provide guests with the opportunity to meet former Yankees outfielder Darryl Strawberry, who will be on hand to greet fans and sign autographs from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.  Darryl Strawberry was one of the most feared sluggers in the game, known for his prodigious home runs and his intimidating presence in the batter’s box with his 6-foot-6 frame and his long, looping swing.  During his 17-year career, he helped lead the New York Mets to one World Series championship in 1986 and the New York Yankees to three World Series championships in 1996, 1998, 1999.

In addition to the box office opening and Strawberry’s appearance, fans will be treated to a behind the scenes look at the Yankees beautiful locker room, photos with CHAMP, fun in the Frontier Fan Zone and an exciting sneak peak into Legends Hospitality Management’s new concession menus as well as the latest merchandise items in the Team Store.

“It’s been a long, cold winter and I know our fans can’t wait to experience a sure sign of spring and warmer weather – Yankees baseball,” Yankees’ President Kristen Rose said. “We are excited about the upcoming season, especially the new and improved food options Legends Hospitality Management will be providing.”

Individual game tickets will also be available online at http://www.swbyankees.com or by calling Ticketmaster at 570-693-4100.

“gloves come off”

Excuse mua, MR “seasonal bartender” (um, thats just another phrase for “out of work bartender”-did you go to “mixology’ school too?).

To me, it seems that REAL yankee fans and baseball fans would know these things about Strawberry’s involvement in the 98 WS, which was NONEXISTANT, are absolute fabrications to sell tickets. Why don’t they say that GI Joe and Mickey Mouse were there too, just to sell some tickets? I mean, that is as much as a blatent LIE as the comment that “strawberry helped lead the Yankees” to win 3 championships” when in reality, he only had a major contribution to the 96 championship. That’s like saying that Phil Simms hepled the Giants win super bowl 25…when he didn’t even play in the game! What world are you living in? Thundara? Middle Earth? Did you take an extra amount of Pysllium husk and defecate out your pea-sized brain before you made that comment?

Obviously you’re no master of baseball or historically accurate statements. Nice job, bone head! Next time you wanna go toe-to-toe with me, bring your A-Game you amateur punk.

“Bad job by the SWB people”

You’re totally right……The team should have slammed Strawberry and made sure they had no one come to the event so they could sell no tickets. Obviously you’re a master of public relations. Nice job genius!

jesus…they are way off….Strawberry played in 24 games in ’99 and 9 AB’s in the playoffs, and he was out after 101 games in ’98 with his illness. If I remember correctly, the Yankees would have won in both 98 & 99 without him.

Bad job by the SWB people. Terrible job. Where is Chris Russo when you need him???

Darryl Strawberry! Now, there’s a heck of a role model…

Um, Straw had nothing to do w/ the 99 championship and practically nothing to do with 98; these people writing these press releases need to ge their facts straight.

I went there pre-Yankees, for a Norfolk – Scranton game in ’06. I hear the Yankees have sunk some major coin into the place since then.
