Yankee Stadium deconstruction under way

These strange images courtesy of WCBS 880 and Tom Kaminski in the traffic helicopter, as it appears wholesale changes are finally underway at the old Yankee Stadium.

The outfield grass from left-center field all the way to the right field corner (or approximately the range Brett Gardner has to track down a fly ball) has been pulled up, in the surest sign yet that the new Yankee Stadium is expected to be ready for Opening Day on April 16.

It’s amazing that everything has been done at such a methodical pace in the Bronx. Before the turf was pulled up, it almost seemed like you could dust off a couple of items and host a ballgame on any given afternoon, whereas Shea Stadium met its final death blow and was reduced to a parking lot weeks ago. Then again, better safe than sorry …
