Kennedy among today’s cuts
Optioned Ian Kennedy to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre; reassigned Jesus Montero, Kyle Anson, Kevin Russo, Mark Melancon and Christian Garcia to Minor League camp.
Basically, the Yankees are running out of innings for guys to pitch here on the big league side. Brian Cashman raved about Kennedy and it does seem he’s in the organization’s good graces, contrary to what many people seem to believe.
Here’s Cash: “I just know that he went home and processed what happened last year, his first time failing in his career, went to winter ball, made some adjustments, came out of winter ball with confidence, came into camp with a good frame of mind and I think he’s leaving and heading over to Scranton in a great frame of mind as well.
“He’s got some things with his secondary pitches he’s going to have to work out. I saw some good things while he was over here but the most important thing now is that I think he’s got a game plan that he’s comfortable with. He knows where he’s going and he knows what he’s got to do to get there.
“I think that process got back on track in Puerto Rico and winter ball this year and I think he’s going to have a big year. I really do. There will be a different Ian Kennedy in 2009 for this franchise than 2008.”
Cashman also spoke about Melancon as someone the Yankees are excited about, and they’re looking forward to seeing him at Triple-A.

I wonder if Kei Igawa has any chance with the big leagues. I had ruled him out but he is impressing. He hasn’t given up a run in like 9 innings pitched. And he hasn’t been reassigned/optioned back to the minors.
Akei Igawa has a better chance of being sold to Japan, though I hear no team there wants him.
The reason he hasn’t been optioned is because he is not on the 40 man roster and we are hoping someone will take him off our payroll.
Igawa probably is just being “showcased” in ST for a possible move; although, the Yanks would have to eat most of his salary to do so. But who knows, maybe he refined something over the winter and is actually ready to pitch above AAA (where he wasn’t half bad in 2008) ? If Marte is out any length of time, and it is deemed worth a Roster Move, Igawa could conceivably be a fill in second lefty in the BP?
Btw, we had Igawa traded but we were too busy working on Sabathia to call Milwaulkie back with an agreement.
Ion Kennadia, UrgH what to do? could have been shipped to Pitt, should have been shipped to Minnesota.
Other cuts?
Cabrera
Hacker
Geise
Alba
What to do with Duncan? Has he earned another big league shot with Arod out?
Robertson could be a cut too. I see Jason Johnson is pitching, I hope he can get back on track.
Dude, if Jason Johnson pitches for the Yankees this year, this team is in BIGTIME trouble.
But, of course, you made an excellent point, just as you have with regards to the Giambi situation. I totally bow down to your complete baseball brilliance.
Jason Johnson…he’s an inspiration but truth is he is WAY below .500 for his career, has a sky-high ERA, and he is like 37 yrs old, not to mention that HE HAS MORE IMPORTANT THINGS ON HIS MIND THAN BASEBALL RIGHT NOW, like his eyesight.
That’s another brilliant posting by Bpark Stotch!
Johnson has cancer, stop being insensitive. I am glad he is pitching.
ButtersPark, you are an tard. He has cancer, IN HIS EYE. you once again have no clue what you are talking about.
