3/10 – Yankees vs. Reds

Mike Mussina was in the clubhouse as a visitor here today. He’s in Tampa on vacation with his family and very happily retired. He was wearing an ESPN cap and a Ford Mustang t-shirt, and told CC Sabathia to keep his locker. Too bad the Mussina window has disappeared, replaced by a large circle ‘NY’ logo.

A sweaty Andy Pettitte hugged Mussina, and Joe Girardi asked Mussina if he’d get dressed or throw out the first pitch. Mussina said no to both. Phil Coke dropped by and Moose thanked him for the outs he recorded in wins No. 19 and No. 20 last year.

“You guys can keeping moving,” Mussina said. “I’ve got to live in this moment for a while.”

Joba Chamberlain RHP

UPDATE 6:24 p.m.: Yes, it’s early, but the Yankees are watching Chamberlain closely in this start. Girardi said that the fifth starter’s job is Joba’s to lose, but they need to see improvement over his first two starts – especially the aborted five-batter outing against Team Canada. Chamberlain has been working on his mechanics, including one exercise where he threw a ‘dry’ bullpen with a towel.

UPDATE 6:40 p.m.: Brian Cashman said earlier that he is “not optimistic” about trading for a third baseman to fill in for A-Rod. Until further notice, Cody Ransom, it’s yours to lose.

“I’m not going to be proactive in trying to do something,” Cashman said. “If something presents itself that makes sense, which is not realistic, then maybe it will be somebody different. I think our answer is here in camp.”

To clarify:
-Sign Moose.
-Sign Pedro for the pen.
-Don’t mess with Joba, make a decision and stick with it. He is better than Kennadia.
-Keep Hughes is AAA unless you go with 6 man rotation.
-Sign Ken Lee Jansen to replace Posada.
-Sign Ray Durham and dump him or Berroa when Arod is ready.
-Sign Bryan Hoch to an mlb.com 4 year extension.
-Consider how Sojo can help the team.

Bpark, dude, no offense, but outside of Hoch getting an extension, that was the most retarded comment i have ever seen you post here. Sign Mussina? I am sure that would be possible except for the minor detail of the fact that HE IS RETIRED AND HE ISN’T COMING BACK.

So You’d put Hughes is the rotation? You don’t like Sojo? You think they should continue screwing with Joba?

I was asking about Cano because the length of his facial hair ment it had to be growing in camp which could mean we laxed our rules.

Oh, and I hear that Cano just finally reach puberty. Do you think his facial pubes means he has finally grown the hell up?

Oh an hey! Mr recovering-giant-fan-you must love Mr Russo (who I think is really Lex Luthor). and that’s a great job giving the shout out the Jeterstar! You should know that she is in LOVE with Josh Hamilton. Ask her. She’ll tell you everything you need to know about him-his brithday, what is favorite pig-out food is, how many beenie babies he owns….you know, routine stuff.

Oh i’m just kidding. I rip on her all the time for adoring Joshypoo so much.

Well, my prediction is that the Yankees are going to be under .500 by the end of April. If not, then when the ROD comes back this team will run away with the division.

I don’t usually watch spring training games until the last week of March, so i am not up-to-SpEd on the stuff. I hate spring training games. I keep thinking that I should be hearing a “ping” when ever a batter makes contact….Spring training games just suck to watch on TV.

Bryan,
Did Moose leave yet? If they are tempted to put Joba back in the pen even the slightest bit, BRING BACK MOOSE. I’d rather keep Hughes as a backup than be short of major league ready options. Aceves may join Hughes as an emergency starter but Kennadia is not. Moving Hughes into the rotation only depletes our options if there is an injury or performance struggles. Plus we can’t as easily move Joba back into the rotation without building up his innings. RE-SIGN MOOSE NOW.

Ken Lee Jansen could be special, he needs alot of bp.
For the people calling Keyshawnwahilli a nut job, he is a protypical Yankee fan and his views are Steinbrenner-esq. He may want Manny and Bonds and that may not jive with what Cashman is trying to do but the Steinbrenner Yankees are know for this, much to Torre’s dismay.
On Joba, 1 bad start, in fact 1 bad inning and they were ready to remove him? Wow, Pettitte will never be on that kind of lease. It took Mussina about 5 bad starts for Torre to remove him. We went through torment with Kennadia last year and 1 bad inning and Joba was on notice. Thats a joke. Joba arguable has shown us more in the pen than Johnny Papelbum showed Boston year 1.
Aussie B, beat Mexico again and you will face Korea in round 2, you can beat Korea.

MLBTV on Cervelli: He is a major league ready catcher, he has great defense but he is a double A batter.

1. Did Cano have facial hair in camp? Looks like a fair amount of growth.
2. What do you think of Ken Lee Janson? That’s what i thought, sign him.

Moose said that he thought the Rivera comments were something he’d previously said. Really, if you look at it, I get what Mussina was trying to say, and he’s right in a sense. But Moose has always maintained he’d have a lot fewer wins if not for #42.

Sorry about that Robert, I could have sworn in one of your early blogs you said you were an Aussie, I must have you confused with Aussie Bryan.

But anyway, to carry on with an earlier conversation in the day, I would rather the Yanks go outside of the organization to find a temporary 3B. Yanks tried to fill their holes with internal “solutions” last season with the likes of Duncan and Rasner and those guys failed. They went after others like Sexson and Ponson to fill holes, but obviously they were the wrong guys. There are more obvious good options outside the organization than inside. This team doesn’t need to make the same type of mistakes they made last season which kept them down.

Hello everyone. Before I get started I would like to confess that I am a former San Francisco Giants fan who currently lives in the South Bay. I have to strees “former” though. I just got tired of the Bonds drama and the losing ways of an organization that wasn’t going anywhere, and by all appearances they won’t be going anywhere any time soon. I am glad to say that I am now a Yankee fan (my second favorite team). They may be a flawed team but at least they are committed to being the best, unlike the Giants.

I also happen to be a long time fan of this blog. I have been reading it since the beginning, and I love all the divergent opinions that you guys aren’t afraid to share. I’m also amazed by the various backgrounds of the people on here. You guys have everything from the Aussies like Robert and kbp to the chicks like jeterstar, Jane Heller etc. and others, heck you even have people out here in the Bay Area like Matt representing, incredible. Matt, if you’re out there, I think I know who you are as I may have seen you on the bus several times in your Yankee garb. IF you don’t mind I will shoot over an e-mail to you in the near future. I look forward to taking part in this interesting enterprise very soon.

Maybe this year if there is more than one injury! Cashman could “reach out” to him like he thought before landing Burnett and Sabathia. Certainly the days of “reaching out” to Clemens are over TG!!!
