3/2 – Yankees at Astros

The last time Chien-Ming Wang pitched against a Major League team, it was June 10, the team was the Houston Astros … and this happened.

We can debate if the Yankees’ season went down the tubes that day at Minute Maid Park — I tend to think it was a combination of not having guys like Jorge Posada and Hideki Matsui, as well as underperformance — but the point is, losing Wang when he was 8-2 definitely didn’t help.

Good news. The Yankees lobbied to have the DH today in Kissimmee, Fla., Mickey Mouse’s backyard of 10,000 pawn shops, so Wang won’t get anywhere near first base unless he’s covering it. I’m off this afternoon — my first off day of the spring — but I’ll have a couple of stories for the yankees.com site later on. Anthony DiComo gets the ball today for the rest of the news.

Good to see the Yanks production against the lefty Hampton! Kontos may begin the year back in AA but Jackson could be the closer at SWB.

Thank you, Sean. Now if only we could just pry Tony away from Mets camp full time.

King,
Still, he has always said he want’s to be a Yankee. I doubt that he would pull the same stunts in NY, but you never know! He seems to be motivated for the first few years in a new uniform. Besides, he’s not known to be a roid user. That’s a big plus right there!!!

Matt,
I know you feel that way. But, I can’t ignore his production as a Dodger. Once Matsui leaves there is a chance of signing Manny. We shall see!!!

REPEAT FROM PREVIOUS THREAD:
Isaack,
Don’t lose sight of the fact that the Japanese posting are sealed bids. The Yankees bid of $35Mil was $10Mil more than the previous high (aka The Market.) The Sox bid was double. Do you think Dice-K is a $100Mil pitcher? I don’t.

Matt,
Yes, but Manny (aka Zazu on Brownie Points) quit on the Red Sox. Who cares about that? If we need a DH why not risk it? After all It would only be $$$ and he could always be suspended and replaced!!!
