Turns out a deal of Mike Cameron for Akei Igawa and Melky Cabrera was agreed upon by the Brewers but the Yankees were too busy to call back because Cashman was in negotiations with CC.

It was previously speculated that the Brewers were unwilling to take Igawa back.

Out of the trashcan and into the fire? Rather than carry 6 outfielders, Duncan may have a shot at making the roster because he can play multiple positions. He is not on the 40 man roster which would mean, if for example Cabrera or Swisher was sent packing, Duncan might get a spot. We wouldn’t be relying on trashcan this year because Texiera will start more games than Giambi and therefore, Trashcan’s pinch hits would be all we would need. Trashcan’s real value could come as a late inning sub for Nady and Texiera in blowout games.

This is the exhibition season and Posada is not going to catch, Matsui is not going to play outfield, so only 1 will be in the lineup during exhibition games.

a7989: “Damn that’s one scary lineup. Pull Molina out of there, move Posada to catcher, and add Matsui between A Rod and Nady…”

Could not agree more. That is one pretty sweet lineup. Go Melky! (I’m rooting for the kid.) Go Yankees!

Johan Santana is a scratch.

has Arod’s cousin been trespassed? Or just politely told to stay away? Seems alittle extreme given that he might want to watch some games as a fan. Its basically saying he is banned because of what Arod said and that mlb banned him because of an incident in 2001. I get the impression that if Arod’s cousin pushes this, he will go to jail.

nice 3 run Jack Shelly! And a neat inning by Melancon….

Abreu’s defense was shaky at best, Tex replaced his offense. Giambi’s offense has not been replaced.

Let me add to the stupidity of Yankees management,
the release of Jason Giambi. Jason hit 30 HR and drove in over 100+ RBIs. He had one of the team’s best slugging percentage and would be a great lefty DH and part time or full time 1B should Texiera go down to injury (think Matsui,
Posada and their replacements Melky, Gartner, Molina).
Opponents were always too afraid of pitching to Giambi that they routinely walked him. Had Giambi been in a more
potent offense where hitters in fornt of him and behind him were hitting, he would have seen more pitches to hit.
Giambi too signed for a small fee with another team. Another major blunder by Yankees management. Yes you Brian Cashman. Or was it the Steinbrenners? Either way it was stupidity.

I can’t believe Yankee management let Bobby Abreau
go so that Brett Gardner or Melky Cabrera could play the outfield. Booby Abreau was a 25 HR 100+ RBI .300 Average
hitter with a good throwing arm and descent speed. Who never needed to be movitated to play.
Yankee management let him sign with another team for $5M. Where can you get a quality player like that for $5M.
Instead they have a choice of 2 backups competing for the job. That is called penny wise jerks. That’s right Brian Cashman. Or was it the Steinbrenners? Either way that was a major blunder.

Phil Hughes pitched two scoreless, hitless innings, though he hit two of the first three batters he faced. Hughes walked one and struck out one.

Jorge Posada opened the third inning with a solo home run, clubbing the first pitch he saw this spring onto the right-field picnic deck.

Play Ball !!!

The Yankees lineup looks like a mid-season lineup, but I am a little concerned with Robinson Cano batting 5th.
.
I have said it many times before, and will say it again — I really think the Yankees are going to miss Bobby Abreu in the middle of the order.
.
The lineup would be a lot stronger with …
* (#3) Abreu
* (#4) A-Rod
* (#5) Teixeira
.
Anyway, it’s great to be watching live Yankees baseball again on the YES Network !!! … Enjoy the game, everybody !!!

I’m almost willing to bet that Ensberg gets a big hit to ruin Phil’s afternoon, if only because the Baseball Gods seem to love that sort of poetic justice when it comes to the Yankees

I know that’s the lineup we were looking at the whole time, but it just feels good reading it off. Let’s just hope the Yankees remain injury free this spring.
