Q&A with Joba Chamberlain

This popped up on the news feed today: some interesting answers from out in the heartland, where Joba Chamberlain conducted a Q&A in advance of a charity bachelor-bachelorette auction.

Thankfully, the starter-reliever question is not asked, and the article notes that Joba would not discuss his DUI issue. But we do learn that Joba has performed in ‘Footloose’ and ‘West Side Story,’ gets facials and manicures, and runs his credit card for Japanese mandarin at ‘Bath and Body Works.’

I would have to imagine that these new revelations could provide some valuable ammunition for road crowds this year.

Hey Bryan,

Now that Pettite has signed, what are chances that Joba can go back to being the No. 1 setup man for Rivera? There are obviously enough potential pitchers that could be a No. 5 starter which would then allow Joba to move back. The Yankees have enough bullpen strength to give Joba an extra day off every now and then so his total innings don’t run up too high. That would still leave ample arms to fill the seventh inning and even the sixth with almost a guaranteed lock on the 8th and 9th. I think that would be desirable and then that would allow Joba to prepare to be the closer when Rivera is ready to hang em up.

I wish … it’s cold up here in NY! My Tampa report date is Feb. 10.

Bryan,

Are you in Tampa covering the Yankees? You should cover the superbowl for mlb.com or scout for the Yankees…

All these Pettitte haters are Mussina haters recycle. However, Mussina was way way worse in 07 than Pettitte was in 08. Despite, Mussina’s 20 win season, his 07 season predicted he was closer to be done than Pettitte is. Like Mussina, Pettitte will bounce back. People said I was nuts predicting 16 wins for Mussina. I won’t predict for Pettitte but if he won 21 games again, I wouldn’t be shocked. He had a tired arm last year because he didn’t condition until right before camp. He is conditioning now, expecting to play. However, he may sign in may.

Rox,
Thanks. But I do get sidetracked!

Andy said he wants to pitch in the new Stadium. I think he deserves a chance within reason. If he gets off to a poor start he’ll likely retire in mid-season! Also, I see no quotes attributed to Andy about $$$. At least not yet unless I missed something.

sidenote: Andy’s offer was upped to $10.5mm over 1 year. I think the last time the Yankees were this stingy was with…..Torre? We all know what happened to him, I almost expect the same from Andy.

Robert,

I’ve been reading your posts since last January; it’s great stuff, keep it coming.

Sorry for being out of the loop — started a new job, new city, the whole 9 yards.

Cheers,

I could see Joba being a United States Marshall. He looks the part.

Matt,
If it’ll make you happy, you can change my Coke comment from Ford to John (Tommy.) I’m sure you understand the point, but your urge to be critical must be overwhelming. And put away those “catch” phrases, they are often inacurate and show no originality. It was not the same sentence!
