The Yankees are Movin’ Out

moving_truck_1.jpgFriday is moving day for the New York Yankees, who are officially ready to bring their belongings – including the 1977 and 2000 World Series trophies – across the street to the new Yankee Stadium.

In an effort to go ‘green,’ the Yankees are using plastic crates instead of cardboard boxes for the move. There will be a photo opportunity for the press in the Bronx in the morning.

While phone lines are expected to connect to their new numbers beginning Friday, the old ballpark won’t be completely abandoned – there will be a skeleton crew left behind for now, including the clubhouse staff, information technology, the ticket office, switchboard crew and a security detail.

I knew it was going to Moving out. Great song.

Garcia has chosen the Mets over the Yankees — something that I certainly will not lose sleep over. He chose the Mets because he has a far better chance to crack the rotation with the Mets. He has to compete with Niese and some other AAA unproven. I’m content with Hughes holding down the #5.

King,
Sheets is anything but a “high-risk” pitcher, especially for the Yankees. The Yanks will lose a 4th round draft-pick and drop 8 million… and there is potential to have last years started for the NL All-Star team as our #5 guy. If Sheets can be gotten for approximately 8 million, Cashman better scoop that up. I’ve watched Pettitte every since he broke in with the Yanks; however, it is seemingly clear that he will not take a pay-cut, something he should realize as a reality.

Garcia is a Met.

Don’t if anyone else caught this. Girardi said the Yankees signed “Johnson” to compete for the 5th spot in the rotation, referring to Jason Johnson during the Texiera press conference. Some thought he was referring to Randy Johnson.

Any thoughts on where Bernie will play if he decides to comeback after the classic?

Typically during the season, no, the Yankees don’t work on extensions. In fact, if you asked me right now, I’d bet against Damon in a Yankees uniform for 2010. But what’s really important is 2009 and everything will fall into place from there.

You were right about Giambi so I’ll go with your instinct.

Your comments seem to match Abraham’s but Abraham explains the disaster if we let Damon walk.

I thought Cashman didn’t do extensions during season? Another writer suggested Damon will get an extension, then I saw Abraham’s blog, that’s why I brought it up.

And thanks, Julia! I just finally worked out how to post YouTube videos on the blog (yeah, OK, maybe I have a little bit too much free time … but it’s the winter). In any event, you can’t go wrong with Billy Joel.

Really doubt they’d discuss an extension with Damon at this time. There’s too many unknowns and he’s a Boras guy on top of that – they always lean toward testing the market. Maybe during the season if everything goes terrific, but that’s hardly a given.

And we should thank Roger Clemens for all 83 of his wins.

As you can see no one has come close to Pettitte’s wins in a Yankees uniform.

All stats are with Yankees only no stats from other clubs included.

I hope the move goes well. Great choice of music!

Are there discussions for an extenstion? I imagine that with several quality outfielders, most notably Holliday, potentially free agents, the Yankees would be better served waiting and assesing Damon’s production over 2009 before commiting. If there is no lead-off hitter of quality we have Jeter, should it come to that. Unless Gardner impresses to the point where he earns that job, though that seems a lot to hope for.

Bryan do you have info on Damon? I imagine any extension would need to be completed before the season.
