Teixeira press conference set for Tuesday
In case you haven’t seen yet, Mark Teixeira’s official introduction as a Yankee will take place Tuesday at 1 p.m. The event could be the last one held at Yankee Stadium. Teixeira grew up a Don Mattingly fan in Maryland and seems a logical fit to take Jason Giambi’s old No. 25.

A fitting end to Yankee Stadium.

I read Cashman comment that Pitching and Defense wins championships. Well I change my opinion of him, his hands were most likely tired by the lack of upper management leadership when George health started failing. Pitiching, defense (speed part of the equation) and timely hitting is the key. Brian, I apoligize for saying harsh things about you. I would have loved to see Manny hitting behind A-Rod, but since we signed Tex. alls good. But if they can find someone who can run those balls down in the gap and steal bases that would be a big plus, but you can’t have it all. Great Job.
Gardner could be that guy. He would hit no. 9 in our lineup, so we wouldn’t need to much offense from him. If he could lay down a few bunts, steal some bases, give pitchers fits once he’s on, he’ll be fine. Plus with his speed, he could really extend centre field. Damon does well enough in left, and Nady isn’t Ichiro but shouldn’t weigh us down in right.
Melky offers less range, but has a better glove. And Melky could be a future .300 hitter, though he hasn’t lived up to his potential yet. I say we don’t move for a CF, and if we aren’t gonna do that we shouldn’t move anyone on this roster.
Matsui DH, Damon LF, Nady RF, Swisher bench(club friendly contract). There isn’t a clog, and we shouldn’t deal for the sake of dealing.
So Pettitte – what now? Does he have a multi year offer from the Braves? Manny money now available?
I honestly can’t believe that Pettitte rejected that offer. I remember Pettitte saying it’s not about the money and it’s never about the money… well Andy I ask you this. If it’s not about the money, why the hell would you reject that offer from the Yankees? You keep saying you want to pitch for the Yankees, and only the Yankees, but yet they give you a solid offer for a 4th or 5th starter and you reject it. Hmm, seems pretty ridiculous to me. Furthermore, how could you honestly expect to get paid $16mil. again when your stats really aren’t that impressive? Pettitte went 14-14 with an ERA around 4.5 last season, while getting paid $16mil. Mussina went 20-9 with an ERA around 3.6 last season, and got paid around $11mil. This makes ZERO sense to me. If it’s not about the money Andy, and you really want to be a Yankee, then why would you reject that offer? I think you should stop listening to your agents and hammer out a deal yourself.

Fuentes-Yankees 2 year deal was very close.
Is Cabrera our new RF if Nady is dealt?
Giambi deal is worth his buyout and what he rejected from us because he wanted a multi year deal. He got 1 year.
He also gets an everyday job. If we had of kept him what position would have played, middle/long-relief? I love the Giambino but his term with the Yanks had definitely expired, I think both parties were well aware of that. If Giambi were still putting up 2001 numbers I would take him over Teix anyday, he gave us 7 years of hard played ball, and despite the off-field issues, kept a smile on– and even a mustache. I would like to see Giambi get a Burrell-esq deal. I am happy to see that Giambi is going to find a team that could use his help, and that he can man 1B for.
As for the Pettitte thing, I still have faith that Andy will realize that 10mm is a well above average annual salary, and will open up the New Stadium to relive one more dynasty.
I think G is DH’ing in Oakland, I would rather have him DH’ing over part time player Sui. Giambi also could have given Tex days off. Giambi would have been much cheaper than Sui for 1 year also.

See Joba info….
Pavano headed to the Indians.
I guess Abreu was too expensive.
I say Pettitte comes back even if its for a partial season. Too much unsureness about Joba.
Ill officially start the “Swisher for RF” campaign right here, right now. Better hitter, better fielder than Nady. After missing chances to grab draft picks for Bobby, lets take this chance flip Nady for something while his stock is still high if anyone will bite. I would think his price and age would appeal greatly to smaller market clubs.
As an amendment, Im not saying they have to move him, just that it wouldnt be a terrible idea to sell high. I like X, hes just not a quite the hitter his ’08 line says he is.
I liked Nady’s power last year. He also is coverted by many clubs. The option for him more than Swisher is that if Damon has nagging injuries or Sui’s knees act up, Nady can play LF also while Cabrera has proved his value in RF. I would be very hesistant to let Swisher move around the OF even though he has done it in the past.

Some might say the same about Texiera.
I’ll go with Nady, trade Swisher.
Nady is batting 40 points higher, has a better slugging percentage. We HAD Swisher in Giambi. We NEED someone who can bat and play OF. We NEED a natural RF’er and we have one who can bat .300 and hit 20+ homers.
We took Swisher ONLY as 1b insurance. He is now expendable.
Swisher is expendable but he adds decent depth to our bench. Hes familiar with coming off from the bench can play 3 OF positions well and 1B well has pop in his bat, I don’t see why we would move him. The team as it is right now offensively is pretty set with the biggest question being weather Teix protects Arod and bats 4th or bats 3rd and gets on for Arod to drive in.
If the Yankees do in fact move on from Andy Pettitte, I’m not totally sure Phil Hughes is ready to be a starter again. I think he should start the season in AAA and get more innings under his belt. There’s no need to rush him again, he’s only about 22yrs old, remember? If they’re looking to spend around $10mil on a veteran starting pitcher to finish out their rotation, Jon Garland is not a bad option. He is a guaranteed innings eater, averaging at least 195IP over the last 7 seasons. He’s about 29yrs old and would be a solid option in the #4 or #5 slot.
I like Gardner hitting in the 9th spot. He could steal bases and he’ll most likely be a better hitter this year.(I hope)

I consider Nady a Yankee, I don’t really consider Swisher one until he plays.
Not a coincidence Fuentes’ contract expires when Rivera retires. If Fuentes had taken a pay cut for the next 2 years, he would be in our bullpen we were willing to give him a 4 year deal he would have been our closer in 2011.
We basically traded Pavano for CC, hopefully we see Carmona and Shitbomber in the playoffs.
Are the Yankees really reducing Pettitte’s offer to $6M?
Giambi ended up with less than the $5M we offered him on a 1 year deal in may.
We sign Jason Johnson and got our IF

I predict Giambi hits at least 3 more homers over the 314 mark in RF at the Stadium this year…..
What’s the likelihood that Manny sits out a year?
