Yankees Winter League updates
Here are this week’s updates from the Yankees:
PLAYER NOTES:
- RHP Kevin Whelan, playing with the Peoria Javelinas, ranks second in the Arizona Fall League in ERA (0.68)…is 1-0 in eight relief appearances this winter, allowing 1ER and striking out 16 batters in 13.1IP.
- RHP Jeff Marquez, also with Peoria, started and recorded the win in his last start on 11/6 at the Surprise Rafters, striking out three batters and allowing 5H in 5.0 scoreless innings…has allowed just 1ER in his last 9.0IP over his last two starts (1.00 ERA).
- LHP Jeremy Bleich , playing with the Waikiki BeachBoys of the Hawaiian League, is 3-1 and leads all Yankees starters with a 2.05 ERA…ranks third in the HWL in innings pitched (30.2) and sixth in ERA.
- 2B Kevin Russo is currently riding an 18-game hitting streak and leads all Yankees Winter League prospects with 28H for Peoria…is batting .406 (26-for-64) during the streak with 10R, 2HR and 11RBI.
- RHP Ian Kennedy, playing for Los Indios de Mayaguez of the Puerto Rican Winter League, made his first start of the winter on 11/7 vs. Los Cangrejeros de
Santurce…recorded a no-decision, striking out five batters in 4.0 scoreless innings (3BB).
- RHP Andrew Brackman, with the BeachBoys, is tied for third in the HWL with 33K in 29.0IP.
- OF Edwar Gonzalez, playing with Los Cardenales de Lara of the Venezuelan Winter League, is batting .350 this winter (7-for-20)…ranks third in the organization with a .381 on-base percentage.

that’s pretty classless of the Padres…he went 30/34 in saves last year which isn’t that great but you would have thought they’d do pretty much anything to make Hoffman retire in their uniform
SECAUCUS, N.J. – MLB Network today announced four new additions to its roster of on-air talent, naming baseball veterans Al Leiter and Harold Reynolds as studio analysts, as well as Trenni Kusnierek and Hazel Mae as reporters.
I wonder if Halbert is trying to leave Pettitte at the old stadium? I don’t think Pettitte is going to retire a Yankee.
Not so Dominant Damarso Marte is back on a 3 year deal ESPN Deportes.
Pettitte has Cards and Cubs along with Stros lining up for him.
Abreu preparing to accept Arbitration?
Too bad the Winter League stats won’t be half as good up in the bigs. Who in the heck are Trenni Kusnierek & Hazel Mae? What do they know about baseball?
