Time to turn the tide

Three losses in a row for the Yankees after their eight-game winning streak coming out of the break, and they’ll try to turn it around this afternoon when Joba Chamberlain takes on Dennis Sarfate. If Dave Trembley smoked a cigar after winning on Sunday, what do you think he’d do if they swept the Yankees in the Bronx?

Some assorted notes for Wednesday:

– The Yankees checked in on Mark Teixiera before he was traded to the Angels yesterday, but obviously there was not a match there. With 10 games remaining against the Angels, the workload just got a little bit tougher, and heading out to Anaheim was never any picnic in the Joe Torre era.

– It’s looking like the Yankees cannot count on Chien-Ming Wang’s return this season.

– Speaking of guys you can’t count on … Carl Pavano pitched two innings for the Class-A Charleston RiverDogs last night and was in an icy mood afterward, the New York Times reports. Luckily Phil Hughes was there to pipe up – Hughes pitched three innings after his first two did not permit him to reach the allotted pitch count.

Just kidding, Carl. I actually have a running $1 bet with someone that Pavano will pitch at least one inning for the Yankees this season. Let’s see it happen.

– This has nothing to do with the Yankees, but an ex-Major Leaguer trying to pass off funny money to pay a cab fare? That’s just sad. Might as well make a run for it.

Has the site timed itself out for refreshing or what?!

Been trying to post on this trade for the last 3 hours… :P

I have to give Cashman some credit here, he goes out and gets 3 positions upgraded by the deadline and only gave up one starter/man from the 40 man roster. The minor league partings we can probably live with.

I know, Pudge is definitely a guy that this team has seen before, an aging star who’s seen the best days of his career on another club’s squad. But, to inject the silver-lining, we upgrade depth at the least and maybe offensive production as Pudge has to be at least as good a hitter as MojMoe are. No doubt Nady is an upgrade in the OF over Gardner or any other ML’er you could call up, I don’t count on Godzirra and even if he is fully healthy, it may not be the case that his swing is well oiled and prime to hit the ground running… Nady is at least capable of producing the kinds of numbers Matsui can bring us when he’s normal. Plus you remove Farnsworth and add a good lefty in your pen. Of course, whether they can ‘play’ in NY and all that jazz remains to be seen.

Now, I guess when you look at things after the fact, it really is our offense that’s been failing us more than the pitching. Granted when Moose gets lit up for 4 in the first and stuff like that, that puts the whole team on the defensive and pressing rather than being able to let the game come to them as it were. I still fully agree with the majority that feel we could do well with another solid SP… doesn’t have to be an ace but a guy who manages a game well and is a tad better than… well than Ponson for sure. I could live with Ras as the 5 with another good 4 along with. It appears that Wang may not be able to come back in the stretch or at all this year so we may be hurting there… unless ol’ Cash has another deal working of course… tick tock, tick-tock!

Still, you’ve got to give him the nod for the moves as they appear on paper. Whether they pan out on the field… well we’ll be eye witnesses to that so stay tuned!

Robbie’s gone cold.. ever since that Boston game with Lester, he’s shut down

i remember in 2005 Robbie’s bat was on fire in the summer and then the Yankees played the Angels, and Robbie’s bat went cold from that series

I was just thinking, as Melky got out AGAIN. Someone on these blogs said something about Melky already having 8 homers and he’s in position to surpass his career high in a season… BIG DEAL! I’d take Melky right now with 4HR, 35RBI and an avg. at .275 ANY DAY over him right now; 8HR, 35RBI and an avg. at .245.

Nady’s second double of the game! Sexon scores 12-2. Maybe Nady’s found his NY stroke?

Nice job Can’thito. First pitch swinging, OUT!

Holy CRAP! Sexon can get around on a 78mph change! WOW!

I hope he actually did throw at his head. Yesterday Cabrera punked AROD, our #1 player on the team after he hit a HR. Millar is a nobody batting .245 for the season and he just so happens to do good against the Yankees. He has hit two HR against the Yankees in this series and nobody hit him. So Arod hits one and he gets plunked by a 96MPH fastball….

You know what that means if someone actually gets to AROD and hurts him to the point that he will miss the rest of the season?

I’m glad they hit Millar as a repayment, considering no one else on that team deserves to get hit more than him.

Level, it’s not “everyone” it’s Bpark. Just go to Tools, Options in your explorer window and turn on the Bpark filter. That should take care of it.

As I finished typing out my entry, Jeter has struck out for a 3rd time today. When was the last time he struck out 3 times in 1 game? Granted he’s hitting .284, but that seems to be a misleading .284 for me. It seems like every time I turn around, Jeter is either striking out or grounding into another double play. He’s a little off his game, which is acceptable seeing as how consistent he’s been throughout his whole career, and hopefully he can kick it up a notch for the rest of the season.
LOL at Edwar getting ejected after his first pitch, I can’t watch the game from where I am (can only follow it through GameDay), but hopefully he didn’t intentionally throw it at the guy’s head.
Levelboss, Eric Milton was the Yankees 1st overall draft pick (I think 20th overall) in 1996. He was involved in the trade that brought Knoblauch to the Yankees. He’s recovering from Tommy John Surgery last year and is rehabbing at this time.

Unfortunately, Milton is ahead of Hughes and Pavano in turns of who would be ready first.

I don’t know about the Wandy Rodriguez trade ddereamer, but I wouldn’t mind having Saltalamacchia in pinstripes. I’m also not sure how I feel about that outfield there levelboss. Matsui won’t be playing any outfield for the rest of this season guaranteed, so it’ll be interesting to see who plays in the outfield every game(Damon, Cabrera, Nady, Abreu) and who will DH (between Matsui and the 4th outfielder).

Like

when Matsui comes back that’s gonna be quite a glut in the outfield.. i’d say have Johnny play left, Nady play center, and Abreu play right and have Matsui at DH with Giambi at first

but you’d have this lineup..
Damon
Jeter
Abreu
A-Rod
Giambi
Cano
Nady
Matsui
Molina

Kennedy and Hughes will do the job we need. When Rasner pitches well(3 out of every 4 starts) that is when the offense goes in the tank. It is very hard to score enough runs for Sidney.

Trade with Texas today. They have catching and need pitching and outfield help. Get Saltalamacchia and Frank Catalanotto(from LI-he would luv being a Yankee)(wow-that is alot of letters). That’s our catcher and goodbye Sexson. Send Texas George Kontos, Eric Duncan and Colin Curtis–throw in Betemit.

Bring Gonzalez back–goodbye Betemit

Trade with Houston-Get Wandy Rodriguez for the starting rotation. Send them Francisco Cervelli and Steven White.

Let’s hope Matsui can give us something. I am very worried about Wang.

Like

When did the Yankees and Giambi agree to a 1yr/$5mill contract for next season? I haven’t read that anywhere. Yes, this team does need to make another move, for something. If the Angels got Teixeira for as little as they did, you’re telling me we couldn’t come up with a deal with better pitching prospects or something?

Like

I totally think you are right, Bryan, about Wang. And I really don’t trust Hughes this year! We really do need to make a trade for a pitcher by tomorrow. Ponson/Rasner is not a championship bottom part of of the rotation….

or simply break even would some how suffice
but imagine being swept by them, we would go in panic mode and stay there for a NYY minute.

whats wrong with arod, he should be at 30 homers by now — he missed a 1 1/2 months due to an injury. The guy is hitting .320 with 22hrs THUS far. He’s on pace to hit something like 35 eventhough he missed time b/c of an injury….

whats wrong with jeter, he should be at 130 hits by now
– Jeter is having another off year. He was injured most of last year and played through it….I think this is just another recoup year.

whats wrong with abreu he should be at 20 homers by now
– Bobby is less of a HR hitter then people think. He changed his swing 3yrs ago working with the Phils and he’s not been the same.

whats wrong with cano, he should ,,,,,,oh wait he is on pace — Cano will bring his average up and his homer tally is looking good. This guy is WAY too young and talented not to produce monster seasons.

On the bright side of things: Melky Cabrera has already hit 8homeruns and is on pace to best his career high….he’ll be BIG for the Yankees for years to come.

Pavano is so useless, he has just been injured throughout his contract. He is like the Mike Hampton of New York. They have to make another deal, probably go after another power hitter.

yesterday i told them, so what if you guys won,,,,YOUR STILL IN LAST PLACE, WHERE YOU BELONG.

Like

I say we bring back Pavano as SOON as he’s ready and let him throw his arm off until the end of hte season. We’re not going to get anything for him of from him so we should just let him take a beating in the AL East as punishment. Make him worthless to any other team.

Giambi will do it next year, they agreed on a $5M salary + the $5M buyout, so worry about 010.
