How quickly things change

In this morning’s Yankees Mailbag, I answered a question from a reader who astutely noted that Jorge Posada was hurting, and in turn, was hurting the ballclub. My response was that Posada is going to need surgery after the season but, until then, believed he could help the Yankees and would try to play through the pain.

Perhaps no more. Posada is off to have a MRI performed on his ailing right shoulder and this could be the season. Obviously it has not responded to treatment and, really, that’s just a temporary fix anyway. The more Posada threw, the weaker his shoulder was likely to get. It’s a cycle that would only be permanently cured with surgery, so that’s what he’s looking at.

Hideki Matsui is still holding out hope, though the knife, for him as well, seems inevitable. He remains on the DL while Johnny Damon has been activated — just keeping in line with Joe Torre’s old axiom about giving a player one more day after he says he’s ready.

I think the hottest yankee right now is Cano. He is hitting the tar off the ball. Plus as far as pitching, Moose, Mo, and Ramirez are pitching amazing baseball.

But, Queen, why is this a question just for the girls?

jeez, how bad was his april……057 or something??

For once Bpark and I agree. Even if Kennedy throws a no-hitter I don’t think he should get a call-up. At least not until after July 31st. We need to keep his value as high as possible, and a bad outing will only reduce it. Right now, he’s still our 3rd best pitching prospect behind Hughes and Joba. We need him for trade bait on a big deal.

Like

Arun,
You’re likely right. Kennedy needs to prove himself here, not there. But I don’t want Rasner to have a bad outing. I want another win. I want to be 10 over .500

Like

I disagree Arun, we need to use him to get other players, another poor outing will hurt.

Like

I wouldn’t do this but Cash might:
Detroit is gonna likely waive Pudge next month to trade him

Like

I think we should promote IPK. If Rasner has a bad game tonight we should replace him with IPK next start.

Like

Never.

Bryan,
What’s the timetable on Kennedy? He went 7 for SWB a couple days ago. Seems like he’s back up to snuff? When can we expect to see him?

Ok, here’s what bothers me. Bottom of the 8th, BASES FREAKIN LOADED, no outs. Yes, we had an 8 run lead. I really don’t care. And I don’t care what Cano and Cabrera did earlier in the game. Those were two of the GD WORST at bats I’ve EVER SEEN! Both weak swings at the first pitch, cheap ground outs. THAT is the mentality I HATE.

Again RobertG I appreciate the minor league updates.

It’s far too early to stop the knocks of the front office on this team. Don’t be afraid to keep ‘em coming guys, there’s more than enough time for Crashman to make his patented GM screwups!!!!! HA! HA! HA!

This is a question for all the ladies out there (and any guy who wants to answer too). Who is the hottest Yankee? Jeter, Arod, or Ponson?

Like

Say what we may about Sidney Ponson, he is eating up innings and winning games for the Yankees.

Like

12-4 game, set and match.

Like

Letting Hawkins pitch IS a waste of an arm.

Like

he is just my all time least favorite reliever.

Like

If Hawkins gets through this inning without giving up a run let him finish the night. Why waste an arm on a game you have an 8 run lead.

Like

I’d shutdown Jorge for the year. I would not chance hurting that shoulder more. Molina & Moeller can do the job defensively and their limited hitting can be survived if the others in the order do their job. With that said another outfield stick is needed. As much as I have complained about relief pitching that group has done its job. I’ll tell you I love games like tonight.

Like

OH CRUD. LaToya Jackson is pitching. She/it/whatever is going to make it an 11-6 game.

Like

Girardi is doing great with the staff. Its not his fault that you have 2 .300 hitters on and off the DL and a .340 hitting (last year) switch hitting catcher possibly done for the season. That stuff you can’t help.

They just need to keep winning their games.. JUST BEAT UP on the scrubs and get into the play offs then worry about the angels….

Like

I think it is about time for all the knockers out there YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE to stand and applaud the management skills of Giarai and the Yankee management.
They have shown enormous faith in the bull pen/relievers and pitchers in general. The bull pen from Farnsworth yes Farnsworth Veras Ramirez Baby Face Robertson have been absolutely outstanding. This without Chamberlain and off course Riviera.

Add to that without Wang Rodriguez Posada Matsui and Damon for lengthy periods of time. Their performance as a team has been exceptional. With the injuries to be where they are is first rate.

Aussie Bryan

Like

Yeah. I think Texeriea(sp?) will hit a ton in this line up. You’d have to think Matsuia and Posada are done for the year, so having that piece of lumber in this line up would really help.

Like

Hughes = Solid #4 if fully healthy. :)

That Nady/Marte deal looks more and more attractive. But yes, if you can get Tex, jump all over it, especially now with Posada done. I still can’t believe it but I guess I had that nagging feeling since it’s been going on all year.

Tex! TEX!

Like

power outage? what power outage?

Like

Oh man, this hurts. If he has rotator problems, he’s done. I like Molina but he really is a liability in the line-up, and Moeller is a back-up.

Nady/Marte fix part of the problem, and you can hold on to them long term.

But I also hear that Tex is available from the braves, and you could get him this summer. I say if you can do that deal, you do it because he immediately picks up posada’s production in the line-up, keeps Giambi @ DH, and puts Sexon on the bench.

Nice HR by Jeter. He found some power today.

I say Nady/Marte and Texeira (sp?) would solve most of the problems. Now, a solid #4 starter…I don’t know….

Like

Where is Miguel Cairo when you NEED him!? :P

Like

Matt,

Absolutely agree with everything you said. Getting two bats for an offense that has been struggling is more of a priority than getting two relievers which is something this doesn’t need to do. They do need a starter and a reliever though as you say. Highly doubtful this team will think of using Milton at this time of year, and this team needs a hitter like Nady who can produce more offense than Pierre. If Fuentes is going to be too expensive then the Yanks should forget about getting Fuentes.

Like

I think Sui with rest can pinch hit in the playoffs. His injury is different than Posada and rest can help in the short term.

Like

GM Mattress Susuki is right, we’ll see what Cashman does. Duncan, Abreu and Kennadia can go.

Like

We need a catcher upgrade, Posada may miss next year as well. We then should try to get Pierre, Fuentes, another reliever and a pitcher to replace Rasner if Milton is a bust.

Like

Cano is on fire.

Like

Posada could miss all of next year if he has rotator cuff damage.

Like

Harris was out by a mile, what a bad call. Nice throw from Abreu and nice plate blocking from Molina.

Like

Fielder’s choice, A-rod smart move with out at third. 2-1
Harris scores on a single 2-2.
