6/4 – Yankees vs. Blue Jays
We’re back under the lights here in the Bronx, where the only ‘Rules’ for Mike Mussina are to go as deep as possible and save the bullpen after last night’s Joba Chamberlain experiment went awry. I couldn’t help but notice that C.B. Bucknor is calling the balls and strikes tonight. Just a hunch, but that may not help Mussina’s cause.
Jorge Posada is back with the Yankees and ready to try catching on Thursday. They’ll keep Chad Moeller and Jose Molina at least until Posada can prove that he won’t suffer a repeat of April 27, when he had to ask out of a start at Cleveland and force Molina into duty 12 minutes before game time. Dan Giese’s short stay in New York is over after 3 2/3 innings and one tour of Yankee Stadium, but chances are he’ll be back on the shuttle at some point.
Jason Giambi is on the bench with a sore left foot. He was hit by a 78 mph Roy Halladay curveball in the sixth inning last night, but the Yankees think he’s available as a pinch-hitter. Spent some time chatting with Brian Bruney tonight — he’s been throwing off a chair and believes he may be cleared to begin soft tossing tomorrow. If so, he thinks late July isn’t out of the question.
