Igawa skipped, A-Rod shelved

If you haven’t already heard, Kei Igawa will be skipped on Thursday. The Yankees have not immediately announced a replacement but it appears to be Ian Kennedy. Darrell Rasner, Andy Pettitte and Chien-Ming Wang will be the probable pitchers for the Subway Series.

Alex Rodriguez will not play in rehab games this week and will not appear vs. the Mets. The Yankees said that his right quadriceps is improving but it’s not where they need it to be yet.

Diehard Yankees fans shouldn’t need this primer, but if you were a Tampa Bay area resident and opened up your newspaper this morning, here’s what you’d find — a nice little trip down memory lane of the Yankees’ all-time greatest moments and players. It makes for a fun read.

At least Joba is showing some fire, and emotion out there. Too bad I can’t say the same for the rest of the team. This is why I liked Girardi as manager of the team. I thought he could provide some fire, but instead I’ve seen nothing. The offense has done nothing but sleep walk through the season so far, and the players look like they’re there to collect a pay check only and nothing else. Can these guys be more boring to watch?

Hey Bedlam, I brought up Kevin Long needing to be fired last week. He sucks as a hitting coach. Nice to see I’m not the only one who sees that. And you’re right about Goose also, leave Joba the hell alone, Jesus Christ you can’t do anything in baseball anymore, I heard Rivera told Joba to tone it down too. I love Rivera but he has the personality of a white wall….Don’t listen to him Joba!

I love Goose Gossage. But he can kiss my butt. Joba may be out of line celebrating a K, but the game has changed. How about mentioning the 200 or so ballplayers that stand at the dish and pose after a homerun? 15 years ago, someone that watched a dinger at the plate got a fastball between the shoulder blades the next at bat. So, turnabout is fair play; punch ‘em out, and pump the fist.

I am a little grumpy. The bandwagon is in the shop for today. Not saying everyone should jump off…..yet.

Chaz, you’re right !!!

Like the great Yogi Berra said, “it’s getting late, early out there” … The Yankees have to go on a “long winning streak” … We need to win the next three games in Tampa Bay, and then sweep the Mets over the weekend !!! … I think it would be very embarrassing if the Mets win any of the three games this weekend !!! … Jimmy27NYY …

I hate to say it, but you guys that are worried about the Red Sox need to realize quickly that we aren’t even competing with them right now. We may be only 3 losses behind them in the win column, but we have to get past the freaking RAYS before we start worrying about the Sox. In fact, we haven’t pulled away from Baltimore and Toronto to stop worrying about them either. We are one bad series, and they are one good series, away from looking at us in the rear view mirror while we chill out in the CELLAR. If we don’t start hitting RIGHT NOW, it won’t matter that it’s too early in the year to worry about the standings. I don’t think it’s time to hear BS like “it’s early” or “there’s a lot of baseball left” or “it’s a marathon, not a sprint”. Look what that attitude got us last year.

Wake up, offense! If we are not careful we are going to wind up taking 3rd this season in the division behing the Red Sox and, I can’t believe I am saying this, The TAMPA BAY RAYS! What the hell is going on here? Does this Yankee roster have even a shred of pride? Get your butts in there and start hitting! Man, I am so sick of this! Granted, Pettite had an off night, but that is NO EXCUSE for scoring 1 lousy run. We weren’t exactly facing Sandy Koufax last night. In fact, I didn’t see whatever-his-name-is throw ANYTHING but fastballs for the first 3 innings. According to gameday, he certainly didn’t. So, this Yankee lineup can’t figure out a guy that is throwing only 1 pitch? I could understand if we were against a guy that was locating his fastball, changing speeds, giving different arm angles, etc., etc.; but this clown was tossing 93 mph heat on EVERY throw. I think we have a deeper problem here. I am starting to think that Kevin Long needs to get a nice severance package and a PINK SLIP. Mattingly had us patient at the plate, and crushing ANY mistake pitch that came over the white of the plate. Long has us diving at crap out of the zone, and looking clueless against a number 5 starter with 1 pitch. Screw this coaching staff. Eiland can’t seem to get any youngster aside from the ones that have natural agressiveness to attack the zone, Long has us looking like we are clueless at the plate, and Girardi wouldn’t know a sac bunt or a hit and run if he had a baseball almanac in his lap, and Tony Gwynn and Brett Butler as bench coaches. I’m am just about done being positive about this; it’s time to poop or get off the pot. And what was with sending down IPK for 30 seconds? What the hell was the point in that? If you are going to send someone down, then do it. If you are not, then don’t. I don’t think anyone in the Yankee office has a damn clue. Uncle George, I don’t think you left this team in good hands.

It is interesting that Kennedy will be pitching the final game of the Tampa Bay series, while Darrell Rasner gets the call to pitch against Johan Santana in Friday’s first game vs. the NY Mets … In my view, this is the right move … Rasner has pitched two excellent games [in his first two starts since being called up from SWB] … Certaintly, Kennedy’s comments about “there being less pressure in SWB, and maybe that would be a good thing for him” [when he was sent down - last week] had to be taken into consideration when deciding which game he would start on his return … All games against the Red Sox, Mets, and any playoff or World Series games are pressure situations for the Yankees, and their starting pitchers … The Yankees did not want to put Kennedy right in the middle of a “pressue cooker” in his first game back. But, Kennedy will have to learn to deal with these type of games because as the season goes on, more and more of the Yankee games will be “pressure filled” … Welcome back to the Majors, Mr. Kennedy … Hopefully, you can deal with pressure? … This is New York, not SWB; and, there will be pressure in every game you pitch … The quicker you get used to it, the easier it will be to pitch [and win] on this New York Yankees team !!! … Jimmy27NYY …

Good to see Kennedy coming back, didn’t think he should have been sent down in the first place. If Kennedy pitches well, I could see both him, and Hughes back in the rotation together once Hughes recovers from his injury in july or August probably regardless of how well Rasner pitches. Hughes and Kennedy are going to be the future of this team so they both need to be given that chance to learn what it’s like to be a starter in the majors. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Rasner go to the pen when both are back up.

Yep, I agree lets keep Gonzalez, and just dump Betapuke. I would rather have a backup player who has good, smart ABs, and will provide some offense than one who has some “pop” in his bat who can’t even hit his own weight and strikeout like it’s going out of style like Betapuke.

If Cliff “hangin'” Lee keeps up his dominance, he may be the next pitcher who wins both the MVP and Cy Young. Have you’re dinner and eat your breakfast… or whatever however that goes.nBy the way, longest blast of the night may be Brandon Phillips’. I witnessed it for myself, looked like he golfed it into left field… beast mode.

Here we go again, I didn’t see the game for myself, but the O-FENCE whent to sleep. It could be acounted to the excess of rest these guys had yesterday and today, maybe their timing was off. Or, Matt Garza was THAT dominant to hold us scoreless over some-number of frames. ( Again, I didn’t see the game. ) Igawa back in the ‘pen? Might as well, another reliever doesn’t hurt, and maybe Igawa turns out to be a shutdown reliever who just couldn’t start! Who knows, those Boston flashbacks are alive and running.

Gonzalez I hear has two hits, out of six total. Bring him on, slot him in at third base in the nine hole, less pressure.

The Yankees need to make some smart moves this July, and it starts with that rotation, Never mind the bullpen or offense. We’ll be on all cylinders once Posada and A-Rod are back. ( How I miss those two! )

Rays 7, Yankees 1 ….. Some good news for the Yankees in this game. Alberto Gonzalez has 2 of the Yankees 6 hits … He has earned a spot on this team, and should remain on the roster as the backup infielder.

So far Matt and others on this blog have been more dead-on than you have.

Robert,

Based on your ridiculous statements about Wells, and Betamit, maybe you should be the one who should apply to the Sucks as a scout. You’d be helping this team out immeasurably if you did with your so-called “eye” for talent.LOL!!!!

I would rather Steve White in the pen or start, just hope bpark, and his alter ego keyswahili don’t show up, and start garbage about signing someone like Barry Zero.

Matt,

The only bad news about that is that Igawa will be left in the pen, maybe to blow up late in games. Good to hear news about Kennedy, even better to hear Yanks aren’t interested in Wells.

Great news, Kennedy is coming back. I knew it!!!! He was only scheduled to pitch 1 or 2 innings tonight, which he did. Awesome!!!! I’ve had enough of Igawawful, and definitely don’t want to see a 45 year old has-been with a lousy attitude who will do absolutely nothing for this team. You can go back and belly up (and I do mean belly) to the bar Wells. You’re not wanted, nor is a washed up pathetic Clemens.

But I want this to be the end of the Igawa experiement.
