Looking to avoid a sweep

The Yankees had absolutely no answers for Cliff Lee on Wednesday, which hardly sets them apart from the rest of the American League. Lee’s resurgence has been one of the most remarkable stories of the young season, but the Yankees were in no position to appreciate it, getting pitches to hit but pounding them into the infield grass.

Apparently, Cliff Lee makes use of the New York City subway system.

Johnny Damon was one who wants to be held personally responsible, and after going 0-for-9 so far in the Cleveland series leading into Thursday’s series finale, it’s valid — but it’s not like Damon is the only cylinder not firing in the Yankee engine. When’s Alex Rodriguez coming back again? (They say Thursday at the earliest, but my money is on Friday vs. the Mets).

Mike Mussina tries for his fourth straight victory this afternoon under overcast skies at Yankee Stadium with a nice crowd — and lots of kids — on hand.

Meanwhile, here’s a great quote about Mariano Rivera in today’s New York Times, courtesy of Cleveland’s David Dellucci: “Facing him is like playing a video game. His ball is
an optical illusion. It’s fun because it’s so nasty. You want to go up
there and see that pitch because of how nasty he is.”

bpark,

I believe you’ll find Doug Meintkiewicz happily playing 1B and 3B for the Pirates!

I call bpark bpoop, and he calls me Mattress.

Couple questions here-

Who is bpoop ( is it bpark? )

who is GM Mattress?

Who would be dumb enough to give anything for Betemit?

He’d robably be involved in one of those ” player to be named later with cash considerations” deals.

Does that mean the electro-shock therapy worked?

Sidney Ponson has just been dealt by Mattress to the local sanitation plant.

At least Boone did something useful and memorable in his career. I’ll throw in Betamit in lieu of manure. That can come in handy too.

Betamit will always be welcome as bat boy in the Boston clubhouse, along with Duncan and Ensburg. Are you still working the phones Mattress? Some will take Aaron Boone if you throw in Betamit.

with any luck Betamit will be joining him!!

Time to shave your head and take Doug Meintkiewicz out for a drink, I think he’s unemployed and he will stay that way.

First of all, I wouldn’t even waste my time trying to trade a no-talent like Betamit. Who ever wants him can have him, good luck to that team. However, I would trade him to a team that had bpoop as GM. I would also sign guys like Clemens, Meintkiewicz and Wells and then trade them for all the top talent in his system. He can have Mussina too. Hope you enjoy life in the toilet.I would rather shave my head bald before I have anything to do with Moose, what a mess!! Good luck to him making it long enough through the season to win 15.

Betemit would be a part of a trade package put together by GM Matress and not traded by himself. Mattress, you should give Moose some more dabs, other than the rough 5th, he went the first for strong with only 1 hit. Had he made it through the 5th, he only had thrown 70 pitches. He is on course for 15 wins.

I’m with you bpark. Let’s reward him for his good job by sending him far away, heh. Maybe he and Pavano can go play together.

We don’t want anyone near Pavano, we want him to forget about his playing status. Plus no one is bad as Pavano.

Again, Betamit won’t provide anything, he has yet to do that since coming over in that trade with the Dodgers who saw us coming. That trade was a flat out mistake, period, they got the better of that deal no doubt. All he will provide are Ks for the team Girardi also knows that, and so do other GMs that’s why none have come around asking about Betamit. Besides who cares how much “pop” he has when he can’t even hit. Betamit is an all or nothing hitter who will jack one out if he is lucky enough to catch a mistake from a pitcher. He offers nothing else offensively. Ensberg, Duncan, and Gonzalez are all flawed hitters, but I would take them in a heart beat knowing they can produce offensively. I doubt any team sees any value in Betamit, other GMs can wait for the Yanks to cut him rather than give anything up for him. Even if they miss out on him it’s no big deal, they can probably find something better with other teams. Nice sign on bpark!!

Looks like we were concerned about innings limits for the wrong guys, should have been focusing on Mussina, he can’t get beyond 6 innings. I’ll gladly pay all of Betamit’s vaction if it includes flying him over one of Hawaii’s active volcanoes and dropping him into it with a 100 pd rock tied around his neck. Same for Pavano. With our luck the volcano will just spit them back out leaving a bad taste in it’s insides. HA! HA!

Betemit will provide the extra pop, from either side of the plate, Girardi know this…Ensberg is ok 3b/1b, but rarely delivers in the clutch, slow a foot…reason astros let him go….Duncan also is over matched by pitchers with decent fast ball…has minor league power…Shane Spencer redeux, plus Duncan trys to hook/pull every pitch and constantly “steps in-the-bucket” when he swings…will not make adjustment to take outside pitches up the middle or to left field. Gonzalez is one year away from becoming regular short stop…Jeter will replace Abreu in right field

I hope this is a turning of the page for Cano. We need him and need him now! Mussina looks as if he is at least going to be serviceable this season. With the Yankees offense he can win 14 or so games.

I think Wilson has earned himself a week’s paid vacation.

He did. In 2003. Saw him make a catch in Baltimore that was one of the best I ever saw. August 2003.

I agree. Hopefully other GM’s don’t though

Yeah, it’s going to take a lot more than a home run to make me come around to Betemit.

You guys are all lucky to be able to watch the games. I live in So Cal and am tired of watching Anaheim Angels and that other team northbound on the 5 freeway. ESPN doesn’t show enough Yankees games out here. But then again, I watched the game last night and was sickened.
Here’s a solution for part of our team’s problems coming from our coach, “You want to make him work, but it’s tough when you’re 0-2 all the time,” Girardi said. “You want to be patient and try to get a good pitch to hit, but he’s living on the corners and he’s living ahead, and he’s able to pitch in and out. He’s able to move the ball around, and it makes it difficult to have long at-bats against him.” HOW ABOUT OUR TEAM TRY THIS PHILOSPHY????

Like

I couldn’t have said it better myself candyrunts. I bet he’s one of those “batting practice studs.” You see why teams might like him, but he just doesn’t do it consistently enough.

Like

jeez…massive to centre field. It’s kind of frustarting to see that power in the hands of someone who generally can’t get the ball in play

Like

Umm. Did Betemit just hit a home run? What’s crazier, the fact that he hit a home run, or the fact that he hasn’t struck out in his last like 8 at bats.

Like

Yeah, it could be. Maybe they’ve been bad at relays for a while. It just seems we’ve let in a few too many of those “extra” runs this year (i.e. that third run in the 5th inning should NEVER have scored).

Like

Cano has hit safely 4 games in a row now in 14AB, not great but might be the start of better things

Like

I’ve been thinking that – few outfield assists etc. Might just be that Melky was throwing out everyone last year

Like

You know, maybe I’m just imagining things, but it seems like the Yankees have been AWFUL this year when it comes to relays. Is it because the outfielders overthrow the cut-off men? Is it the cut-off men make bad throws? All I know is I think I see a pattern.
