Where were you?

Here’s a little story to help you wait out this rain delay between the Yankees and the Red Sox. Where were you when Aaron Boone hit a Tim Wakefield knuckleball over the left-field wall at Yankee Stadium in Oct. 2003? Phil Hughes remembers exactly where he was — working at a Baskin-Robbins scoop shop in Southern California, getting in-game scoring updates from his mom via telephone.

Boone went deep, the Yankees rejoiced, and Hughes was crushed.

A Red Sox fan growing up, Hughes had a poster of Nomar Garciaparra on his bedroom wall that contained the words, “Reverse the Curse.” The spin of it was that when the Red Sox finally won a World Series in 2004, Hughes couldn’t enjoy it. By then, he’d just finished his first year in the Yankees organization and wasn’t thrilled by it. But his father was — a lifelong Red Sox fan who has since switched to the Yankee side since, after all, his son works for the team.

Something overlooked in that game was Mussina’s relief effort. He was brilliant! And, if my memory is correct, it was his first ever!

I was watching the game with my father at his home and I was sitting on the couch and I jumped up like crazy when Boone hit that home run. I was so happy. It was such a good feeling that night.

Glad he is on our side now! He is going to be an ace at some point. Beating the Red Sox tomorrow will help his allegiance!

I was at work, I worked on a maternity unit bathing a newborn. I was listening to the game in the nursery when he hit the HR. I knew by the sound of the bat it was a HR and I couldn’t put the baby down quick enough to go and see the TV in our triage room. Thank god I worked with fellow nurses that knew what I die hard yankees fan I was. And on of them finished bathing the little boy. Hopefully a yankee fan in the making.

Yeah, it’s actually kind of good to know that the Red Sox needed Beckett to be really good and Papelbon to be unhittable to beat Moose. Who’d a thunk?

Papelbon brought it tonight. I have to give credit where credit is due. I don’t know if anyone short of Superman or Mighty Mouse could have hit his stuff tonight.

Damn. Small hope in that Joba, Mo should be fresh for tomorrow. And maybe Timlin can blow another game for us.

Keep the faith. We still have the 9th

Well that AB certainly wasn’t worth the wait.

Nice story. I’m sure Hughes’ childhood allegiance to the Red Sox will make tomorrow’s start all the more special for him.

Nomar certainly didn’t do much curse reversing…Red Sox or Cubs.

It must be odd to have that split alleigance. Mr Hughes Senior will probably still root for a Red Sox win but a no decision for PH.
