Gonzalez up, Duncan down

Alberto Gonzalez is here tonight, having been summoned from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He’s in the lineup tonight and the Yankees have optioned Shelley Duncan to Triple-A — something of a surprise since Morgan Ensberg apparently rolled his ankle on Monday.

The Yankees did have one bit of good news as Jorge Posada’s MRI came back relatively clean. Derek Jeter played catch today but right now it’s Jose Molina and Alberto Gonzalez as your starting catcher and shortstop, respectively.

I spent some time talking today with LaTroy Hawkins. Hawkins went to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum today with his mother and nephew, who “loved” the place. Now that MLB is allowing players to wear No. 42 again on Jackie Robinson Day, April 15, Hawkins plans to join Robinson Cano, Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera (of course) in wearing the number later this month.

Giambi has been good defensively, but MIA offensively. making him a DH so he can concentrate on his offense isn’t a bad idea.

Betamit= Garbage!!

Giambi has been excellent defensively. Molina is currently the starter, good Posada is gonna be ok, Fasano a lesser backup than Molina is not needed. Duncan = Spencer.

Molina has been a better backup as he has shown he can generate offense, plus hasn’t been a problem with him fitting in with this team at all. The Yanks should try starting Duncan at 1B and move Giambi to DH giving him more opportunity to concentrate on his hitting. He’s probably been to conscious about his “D”.

Cano defense still better than Sori’s but the error have hurt us.

Betemit may get cut or optioned but Giambi is going nowhere and he may re-sign.

Actually I agree Lane is a bad idea, he can only play first. Nick Green is a better option than Gonzalez, Ransom is too.

Fasano fit in real well with this team and as a backup, he was fine.

No shock to me on Duncan, his energy makes it hard for him to be used as an end of the bench player. Duncan really needs more ab’s than he was gonna get. Duncan would be better off in triple A and get called up at midseason. The question is though, who is the 5th outfielder now? Betemit? lol but Torre played him in left.

First of all, I’m glad Fasano isn’t available, the last thing this team needs is another player who can’t hit his weight to go with Bet “I won’t hit my weight unless I go on the Jenny Craig Diet”amit. Cano back to SS? Duncan to 2B? Obviously not going to happen. This doesn’t have to be complicated with band aid solutions. Either move A-Rod to SS, and Ensberg to 3B, or just add Gonzalez to SS, just forget about Bet ” I get cut before the All-Star Break”amit and bury him on the bench by not using him as anything more than a last resort.LAne is nothing but another OF, Yanks weren’t about to call him up when they need another infielder. Despite the fact that Giambi has accomplished the impossible by hitting for a lower BA than Betamit he isn’t going anywhere…..yet!!! Damon and Cano have proven they can provide offense, something Bet ” I set the single game strikeout record soon”amit. They are everything Betamit isn’t. Betamit has never proven to be a productive hitter, the Dodgers definitely got the better of that deal!! Cano’s defense hasn’t hurt this team nearly as much as Betemit’s lack of offense.

Here’s an interesting one, Pavano could be pitching off a mound soon.

For all the people compaining about Betemit’s offense. Cano’s errors hurt us too and we could get more errors from someone with better offensive production. Also, I see Big G, Damon and Cano gets a longer leash even though they are struggling with the bat too.

In the minors, I’ll take Lane over Green over Ransom over Gonzalez. Get Damon and Sui fitted for 1B mits again, Giambi may be back to DH’ing.

I think Gonzalez coming up signals Jeter will be out longer. Which to me says Ensberg needs to be in the lineup, unless you put Cano back to SS and move Duncan to 2nd. Posada could be going to the 60 day disabled list, Sal Fasano is in Toronto, Girardi could be an emergency option or Flarety, Moehler is NOT an option, he wasn’t even with us at the beginning of the spring. Molina is being overused and this is dangerous.
