Just a workout today
The Yankees have scrapped the live hitting and pitching this morning, as part of their preparation for a seven-inning intrasquad game on Wednesday.
One of the more impressive sights of the early workout was watching Alex Rodriguez throw long-toss with Shelley Duncan. A-Rod was lined up on the right field foul line just beyond first base and was throwing rockets to Duncan in deep left center field, almost near the warning track.
A-Rod’s throws were hitting on the fly every time, while Shelley – no slouch with the arm – was one-hopping them every few throws.
Jason Giambi wandered in this morning with a close-cropped, clean haircut. Contrary to public opinion, he didn’t visit the barber on Joe Girardi’s orders.
"I cut it because I wanted to cut it. I have problems with authority," he joked.

Since we cannot see the intra-squad scrimmage, could you provide updates and stats for the game? I don’t know if you can tell or not, but we are desperate for some baseball!
You always think of third basemen throwing that side swish thing to first. A-rod could throw rockets…cool. If there wasn’t such a surplus of outfielders he could be one. And just looking at all the reports and things, Girardi is really strict. In a good way. I think the Yankees could use that little extra nudge of discipline that he brings. I was wondering how he’d be treated being a former teammate of some of the guys, but I’m liking the whole strictness. I think the NFL has more respect for their coaches than MLB has for managers, it builds championships. Tony Dungy and the Colts are living proof.
I’m not sure if this guys has been mentioned but I recently read about a young pitcher in the
Yankees’ farm sysytem, Andrew Brackmen, I know he is a few years away from pitching at the major league level due to elbow surgery, but he’s like 6-11 *****), has a downward plane 89-96 fastball and knuckle curve. This guys sounds exciting! I can’t wait to see him on the mound within the next couple of years.
