Friday’s forecast: 83 and BP
For some reason, the cable box in my apartment is in love with Bay News 9 and resets to it every morning. The weather lady is always on and her tune never changes. Today in Tampa it’s getting up to a high of 83 degrees with partly cloudy skies.
Sorry, couldn’t help it, New York.
While everyone back home shovels out, the Yankees are going to have a busy day at Legends Field, as pitchers will face hitters for the first time. This never turns into a very good hitting exhibition because, at this stage of Spring Training, the pitchers are well ahead of the hitters. I mean, guys like Joba Chamberlain have been working out in Tampa for weeks over at the Minor League complex on Himes Avenue.
But as we said yesterday, it doesn’t work out great for anybody. Usually there’s no catcher in the batting cage, and usually pitchers don’t deliver at full velocity while being protected by the L-screen. Still, I have to admit I’m interested to see how certain guys fare. So are the fans, who are already lining up outside the complex to take a peek. I’ll pop back on soon and let you know what we see.

Bryan, I’m jealous already, great weather, great baseball. I wish I could be there! Here in NC it’s cold but not nasty, we did expect an ice storm but thank the lord that didn’t materialize. I read about Hughes and Joba, and get excited, just waiting for the season to begin.
“GO YANKEES”
Hi, Bryan!
Weather in NYC: 30 degrees…..SNOW…..Wind SE at 8 mph…..Humidity 88%
Well, it’s still snowing here in the Bronx, and it really doesn’t look like it’s going to end anytime soon. I would say we have at least 5 inches on the ground already !!!!!
Anyway, it is a beautiful sight…our first “snow storm” of the Winter!
I feel like the Kevin Costner character [Ray Kinsella] in the movie “Field of Dreams”, in the scene when Ray is looking out his window at his “snow-covered” baseball field in his backyard…
I don’t have a baseball field in my backyard, so I just see the snow covering my backyard patio and garage roof. The only view of “Baseball Diamonds” [I have], is through the window of my computer!
We have the snow here in New York, and all the sun is in Florida and Arizona!
So, enjoy the beautiful sunny days of Spring [in Florida], Bryan!
I have viewed, listened to, and read all your spring reports up to today, and I look forward to all your future reports. These reports [and all the other baseball news in the media] keep us all focused on the upcoming season, and the warm and hot days of Summer…especially, in the middle of a snow storm!
Bryan, you’re doing a great job! Keep up the good work!
Take care!
Jimmy

Great article Bryan, on how Phil Hughes has more pop in his pitches. That is great news, I’m a huge Phil Hughes fan, it tore me up when he had to come out of the game where he had a no-hitter going against my home town team, the Rangers. I would love to see Phil have a few no-no’s this season!
“The weather lady is always on and her tune never changes”

Snowballs, not Baseballs – in New York…
It finally stopped snowing [a little while ago]…Time to go out and “shovel” !!!
Only 38 days until Opening Day…
March 31th [at the Stadium] vs. the Blue Jays !
Go Yankees! Number 27 in 2008!
