The times, they’re a changing
Derek Jeter was asked today if he missed Joe Torre. Pausing for a few beats before delivering an off-the cuff remark, Jeter said, "Yeah, I missed him … when we were running."
For Yankees pitchers who have been in camp all week, the Torre era represents days gone by, and the position players are beginning to find that out. One pitcher said that while Torre wasn’t running a country club, the Yankees under Joe Girardi are off and running … more than in any other Spring Training camp, including ones in other organizations.
Andy Pettitte threw 45 pitches in a bullpen session and says he can feel his legs a bit weaker than usual, thanks to those trips back and forth from Washington, D.C. He’s not worried about catching up. … Outfield prospect Austin Jackson is the first casualty of camp, suffering from back spasms. He’s expected to return to action on Thursday. … Johnny Damon briefly contemplated retirement last spring, according to a report on SI.com.

LOL. He’s running the old men ragged already.
Joe G’s all, “I’m gonna make you strong!”
Is he going to have Jeter do 20 pushups for every grounder he boots like my old high school coach?
That’s great. Girardi is showing leadership which is what the Yankees need. I’m not sure Jeter really led them especially through out the A-Rod “I’m a power hitter and Jeter is a singles hitter” talk from A-Rod last year.

Bryan, are the Steinbrenner grooming rules still in effect? The starting first baseman hasn’t had a cut since he joined the Yankees.
Joe Girardi…Another Billy Martin?
Joe G. has the Yankees “running”. That’s Great News. Spring Training is “off and running” to an excellent start !!!
The long lost ghost of Marty Miller [the Yankees so-called conditioning coach from last year] is totally out of the building!
Great Statements by Hank…
Hank Steinbrenner made some very encouraging and bold comments about Joe Girardi the other day. Hank said, “Truthfully, I think Girardi is going to end up being one of the greatest managers in the history of the game. That’s my gut feeling. He reminds me of Billy Martin – without the baggage”….
Hank also said,”he believes the Yankees will be a power for the next ten years”…
So, if Joe Girardi continues the impressive leadership he has shown early on in this spring, he surely will still be the Yankees Manager 10 years from now, and well on the way to equaling [and, passing] Billy Martin’s 1,253 wins as a Manager!
And, with Joe G. here for the next 10 years, there will be many World Championships that we will be celebrating during the Joe Girardi Managerial reign !!!
It all starts in 2008, with Joe G’s first World Championship [as a Manager], and the Yankees 27th !!!
Go Yankees!
