Ready for 2008?

Newyears_champagne_bottleThere’s one more day to go in 2007, and by this time on Tuesday, we’ll all be up and around (hopefully?) and looking forward to the promise of a new year. That means, of course, that everyone will steadfastly swear to keep all of those New Year’s resolutions that, no matter what, wind up being broken by March 1st.

I keep thinking I’m going to swear off the hot dogs at Yankee Stadium. I really doubt that’s a vow I’ll keep. That’s OK. I’ll make it anyway.

For the Yankees, there’s the hope that 2008 contains a more satisfying finish than 2007 did. If the Yankees themselves chalked up a list of New Year’s resolutions, what would they be?

"We will get Kyle Farnsworth’s fastball under control … we will find something for Kei Igawa to do … we will find a way to find enough at-bats for both Hideki Matsui and Jason Giambi … we will not subject reporters to watching Johnny Damon exercise in the nude?"

Once the calendar turns, we can really start the countdown to February 14 — pitchers & catchers reporting to Tampa, Fla. — and get the ball rolling. Thanks to everyone who contributed here in my rookie season on this blog and made it an enjoyable experience for all. A safe, happy and healthy New Year to all.

Thank you Bryan!

You are doing a great job, and have an excellent Blog. I look forward to many more great posts in 2008!

In my short time at MLBlogs, “Bombers Beat” is one of my favorite Blogs…I enjoy all the posts, opinions, thoughts, and comments of all the many knowledgeable, die-hard Yankee fans, who are regular viewers and contributers to this awesome site!

May everyone have a great New Year’s Eve; and, A Very Happy and Healthy New Year!!!

Go Yankees, in 2008…

“The Yankees win, The Yankees win – their 27th World Championship”…The World Series is over! The Yankees are the 2008 World Champions!!!

Best Holiday Wishes,

Jimmy

“Think Spring”!!!

P.S. – The Yankees need to find a new team for Kyle Farnsworth. Maybe he can find his fastball “some place else”!

All the best, to all Yankee fans!

Happy New Year to Bryan, and everyone else here! Here’s to a successful 2008 season.

My hopes for 2008 will revolve mainly around the bullpen. Thats my biggest concern…

Happy New Year to Bryan and all you loyal yankee fans who are reading this on New Year’s Day.

Go Yankees. There is only one fitting way to honour the House That Ruth Built in 08, and that’s delivering a World Series. It won’t be easy, but the Bombers are certainly up to the task.

Here’s hoping No.27 leads us to No.27

Happy New Year Brian! I hope you have a great one. I also hope you will check out my blog on Fox Sports.

I’ll leave 2007 thinking of the Leyritz trajedy. Hope you all drive safely and DON’T DRIVE WHEN YOU DRINK!!

Oh. One other note. Here’s a fan comment to the Leyritz story in the Boston Herald, the land of the gracious World Champions, with my response:

Milt Pappas: What a bunch of drunks and dopers the Yankees are. I hope this maggot gets 10 years in jail. Leyritz = Fat Drunken Tool.

BobK: Sigh. Where have you gone Carl Yastrzemski?

Hey coach laffin,

Have you seen The History Channel’s: Dogfights: Kamikaze? The main story about the WWII attack on a destroyer named the U.S.S. Laffin?

Hope you all have had a good new year celebration. I’ve just gotten home from celebrating and hope you all have had a safe holiday.

It’s a shame to see ignorant comments like the one made by Milk Pappas. I guess Jeter is a doper, huh? Just a note to him. Gagne was on that list, I guess the Red Sox title is blemished and they’re all dopers too. Idiot.

Happy New Years everyone!

Go Yanks 27 in 2008. Screw the redsux and oh yeah wasn’t it Big Plappi who said he might have unknowningly taken some type of steriod in Dom Rep? Hum, Has anyone ever looked at how much smaller he was on the Twins until now. Just some food for thought. Go Yanks and Happy New Year!

Hey coach laffin,

Sorry. It’s the laffEY. Still a **** of a show.

I literally woke up just an hour ago, and I thought of one thing. World Series 08!!!!!!

Some Stark rumblings indicate Clemens is gonna pitch and would be willing to take an incentive laden contract. It is possible Clemens will agree Yankees fan soon with some sort of apology for an injury plagued season in 07. One thing is certain, Clemens has closed the door on playing for the Astros.

I heard Clemens wants to pitch in the Olympics, again.
That would make him available after 8/23/2008. Could he do better in the pen than Joba?

I’ll tell you what. I don’t think the Rocket would be better in the pen than Joba. But, I would say that Rocket in the pen would be better than any other free agent reliever out there. Am I saying this would be a good deal? Not necessarily, but depending on how Clemens thinks about the pen, or what the terms of his incentive-laden deal would be, I think it could be an avenue to at least look at. I think Clemens could prove effective out of the pen, with the less innings on his arm.

“Some Stark rumblings indicate Clemens is gonna pitch and would be willing to take an incentive laden contract.”

that’s what i was (reading and) saying before.. that Clemens is not gonna go out quietly after the whole steroids accusation (and pitching in the Olympics i think won’t do it) – it might even ruin his HOF chances.. maybe, maybe not

i say that this year will be a reverse of last year.. that Clemens will be the one almost begging to pitch instead of the Yankees begging him.. whether you like the idea of Clemens in the rotation again or not, i’d think its entirely possible Clemens could start for the Yankees this year at a MUCH discounted rate

One reason the Olympics is attractive is he would have to pass all kinds of drug tests. Guess he thinks that will help his image. I hope we don’t need him to start this year.

Clemens would likely be removed from the 40 man roster for the period of the Olympics. This would need to be in his contract, so he can still be post season eligible. Clemens will pitch this year. Most likely as a starter and not until June or July.

I am waiting on him to comment on his season, maybe 60 minutes will cover that?

I will be SORELY disappointed if we allow Clemens to come back, and even more so as a starter. Come June, if our entire bullpen is struggling, maybe if he’s willing to come cheap enough, but lets worry about that then.

Under no circumstances (barring the injury of…everyone) would I allow the old man to start a game. I will go on record to say I oppose that signing…Didn’t we learn from his performances last season? He’s got nothing left in the tank.

Be sore. He 2 hit Boston the last 2 times out.

And won 6 games….I’m pretty sure we could get Ian Kennedy to win more than that…

Bpark,

In the name of all that is holy, I hope that we never see Roger Clemens in pinstripes again. If Brian Cashman even mentions his name and the word “contract” in the same sentance, he should be fired right on the spot. As a matter of fact, if he even thinks about it, he needs to be slapped across the face. Why would we want to pay a 90 year old roid freak (allegedly) 50 gazillion dollars to give us half of 1 season with an ERA over 5, and a losing record? HE IS FINISHED. Let the kids have a run at it. The youth on this team is what is responsible for our resurgence last season, and they will be responsible for our 100 win season this year. GO YANKEES!!!!!

There’s no chance at all that Clemens comes back to pitch whether it be as a starter or reliever (don’t think he accept a role as reliever). There is no role for him on this team as the Yanks have the starters they want in place there’s no way they will mess with that. Clemens will be a waste of money whether he gets an incentive-laden contract or not, he wasn’t even worth what he was getting paid last season. He should just re-open that door to pitching for Houston, no Yankee fan wants to see him limping through an entire season again not being able to help this team. The future of this team lies in the young pitchers not be re-living past years through a broken down pitcher.
