Yankees finalize Pettitte

On the never-ending parade of transactions that, by all appearances, seem to be done but have not yet been officially announced … scratch one more off the list. The Yankees have finalized their one-year contract with Andy Pettitte and announced it Wednesday morning.

"It always helps when your teammates want you to be back and be a part of it," Pettitte said.

Now all the Yankees need to do is figure out a way to clear roster space so they can get Alex Rodriguez, Mariano Rivera and LaTroy Hawkins on the roster. Wednesday marks the day that teams must tender contract offers to their arbitration eligible players, so the respective agents for Chien-Ming Wang, Robinson Cano, Wilson Betemit and Brian Bruney will be busy.

Of those four, three were locks to return — there was some speculation about Bruney being non-tendered, but a source told the New York Daily News that the Yankees envision having Bruney in that cast of characters to compete for bullpen innings at a relatively low cost.

Bruney’s biggest problems were his command and reluctance to make adjustments; at one point, Ron Guidry pleaded him to go to a full windup just to shake things up. He, like Kyle Farnsworth, seemed to be the kind of guys who were candidates ripe for a change of scenery. Now it appears the Yankees will keep both.

Bruney’s problem is not his unwillingness to make adjustments to his pitches, it’s his unwillingness to make adjustments to his waistline, he’s FAT.

i just don’t get why he had joba like numbers his rookie season in 06 but lost it all last year. I mean he weighed the same both years. joba’s a big guy too but he still pitches lights out.

bruney is so fat, he can eat an entire large pizza between innings. all 8 times at home and 9 times on the road.

he chooses extra cheese over extra innings,,,or better yet he chooses both.

August 24: “I’m a reliever,” Bruney said. “I can’t come in and set it on a tee for a guy. If that’s what you want, I can give up hits all day, but sometimes I’ve got to try to get a strikeout.

“You throw pitches that you think they’re going to swing at, that not necessarily are strikes. You try to make them look like them. The walks are high, but it’s not like I don’t know how to throw strikes.”

Who’s gonna get more Cano or Wang
How much you think their getting

And Is betemit worth more than 2 mil.

Cano 6-10 Wang 7-10 what do you say sounds right or less (more???)

Duncan on first Betemit on reserve and whenever or sometimes when Matsui DH’s Giambi on first How good is Duncans Def.

cano-
5 to 7 years about $8-10M per yr

wang-

3 to 5 years about $9-11M per yr

cano makes 490,800 currently

wang makes 489,500 currently

(this is my take)

LOL, corshep! ROFLcopter. A rapist, freaking hilarious! He should just get it over with and come to the mound in a straight jacket. Dude looks like the fat guy at the end of “Identity”.

I think Paul O’Neill and John Elways pitched better than bruney.

if only he raped boston batters…

i think britton (yankee rapist) can take on the boston strangler, whuch you think?

Glad to finally see andy aboard.
Cano, 5 yrs 25mil

Wang 4 yrs 20mil

Bruney apparently is well thought of by someone high up. we have to hope they’re right.

redsoxlose
you really think the yanks are gonna get the sense and sign Cano and Wang

every fan thinks they should but i don’t know how much that matters to Cashman and Hank

I really hope they do sign them

hey corshep,

what time did you post,,,12:11 are you in nova scotia or on a boat somewhere in the atlantic with wifi or something..east coast is at 11:37 not 12:37 yet….

5 mil. a year your really selling Cano and Wang short
but i do agree Cano get a few more years on the contract then Wang

Any no trade clause in it

The players might demand it

or they could trade them all away and get

santa to pitch everyday

and pujols will bat all nin times (remember middle school fellas) i use to love batting for some scrubs on my team alwasy,,,i use to tell the other team that i am batting for “herb” It got so bad, that they had to put a rule on me that i could only do it once in one inning.

Cano will get more, Wang might get less.

Bruney, Bruney, Bruney… this man is overweight and can’t throw strikes to save his life if it depended on it.. yes he was good in 06 after the D-backs released him but thats the reason why he was released, because he was garbage and is now again.. so please cashman. designate this guy for assignment to clear up some room for the FAs

I read somewhere that there’s a rumer the yankees are seriously thinking to sign contracts with Cano and Wang
I’m trying to remember where

Anybody else read it

corshep how did you write in the future
could you go back there and see what happened with Cano,Wang contracts

Thanks

I thought no matter where you are it goes by local time of the blog somebody go to Europe and keep their post on the bottom till the next post

till the next blog post

Everybody always talks about how much of a waste of time and money Carl Pavano was. But without that awful contract and 19 starts and injuries, maybe we don’t have the farm system we currently have now. If guys like Jared Wright and Carl Pavano worked out, maybe we don’t pull up Wang, Chamberlain, Hughes, Kennedy…In the spirit of the holidays I would like to thank…Carl Pavano. For being so injury prone and pathetic allowing the Yankees to change course and develop younger, better talent. Thanks!

is anyone confused yet, i am.

and since this is the future now, wang & cano will be signed, “beleive it or not” (R) folks.

Thanks RedSoxLose
what is their contracts

5 years 10 years

Till they retire

moneywise how much the yanks paying 5,6,7,8,10,12,

have a bright future

It’s time to get off that stupid rapist nonsense. Grow up!

Well, look at the market right now. Unproven Kuroda is going to get about $10 – 12mm a year, and that’s the same as Loshe and Silva will probably get and they’re projected as #3 or #4 starters. My guess is that Wang gets one of the newly popular 4/40 ish deals.

A couple of the mediocre/low-end 2B have gotten 1yr – $5mm deals this off season. Cano definitely projects as better than a Kaz Matsui. Cano has been deemed as untouchable in trades so i’m guessing he will get something like a 6/56 ish deal. That’s just speculation, the Yankees might not want to go out any farther than that.

Red Sox brass may be satisfied to see him go anywhere but the Yankees. The members of the Boston front office have proven to be creative thinkers and may figure out how to work out a deal. The Red Sox also know that if they get Santana, in the words of one competing executive, “the Yankees are playing for the wild card the next three years.”

mitchell will name losers who were users tomorrow at 2pm

mitchell is a boston exec. go figure so manny boston tampons will be pardoned,

youk,manny,schilling,lowell

and he might just come down on NYY very hard, giambi will be the frint runner and they might out dirt on Arod, cause he is very good-looking

Pettitte’s words twisted
http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2007/12/12/pettitte-yanks-dont-need-santana/

Pettitte never says we don’t need Santana, he says anyone can win and lose in the postseason. There is no guarantees.

Bryan, I heard Arod, Rivera and Hawkins could be finalized in 48 hours. Who gets released?

Bruney was optioned to the minors, Psycho Myers was cut. I’d rather have psycho Myers than minor leaguer Bruney.

Bruney makes nothing, cutting him wouldn’t hurt us. Farnsworth makes too much.

I think Manny was more than hurt last August, he was out so long, undercover suspension?

No one questions Manny’s weight gain that is more than Bonds.

bruney will eat innings up in the minors,

keyword: eat

He doesn’t have to be on the 40 man roster to be in the minors?

Tejada dealt to the Astros for 5 prospects. WOW, 5 prospects?!?! That seems like way too much for a declining short-stop, who’s numbers have declined steadily over the past 3+ seasons.

I think both teams win in this deal, the change in scenery will be good for Tejada who wanted out of Baltimore bad, and Baltimore gets 5 youngsters.

They’re really running out of people they can take off this 40-man roster, but there are a few pitchers you could wipe out. Take a look — T.J. Beam, Matt DeSalvo, Sean Henn, Scott Patterson, Carl Pavano… there are a few choices there, even though the Yankees think highly of some of those guys.

Patterson was just signed?

I like releasing the first 3 (plus Pavano) but they seem to like Henn, I don’t.

Is Chase Wright a guy they like more than DeSalvo?

Thanks Bryan.

From what I can tell, there are a few people not quite sure what the Yankees plan to do with Patterson. Chase Wright is definitely a guy they like more than DeSalvo – he’s younger and left-handed. They really rushed Wright out of necessity this year and it hurt his confidence (the Boston game in particular), but they think he’ll be able to come back.

Rowand signed with the Giants…. if Melky goes, looks like Corey Patterson….

A fun read, when torre rejected the offer to manage

teething torre torn to tiny town, thinking tribe took title thoughts to timetables, touched the trust temper, treat them to the thunder that took them three times to the tails. teach them torre, teach them the time they took to torment the team, the triumph the tailgaiting, the trauma, the trades, the thoughts, the titles, the thank-you’s the teachers, the timelines, the tears, the ten+ trips to the trains to tell the tales that tied them to the tunnells that they ticked time to time. Torre teaches the trust to think thouroughly together to tame the toughest, touchiest, thoughfullness, tired, tempered, testy, taunting teamsters that tore torre’s tamed thunder that the trust thought that tough torre took taintedly to tie the tour to try, then try to tell the tribe to thank torre.

torre took teachers to tell the thousands that “time tells troubles that teach togetherness”

corey patterson

Once upon a long time ago he was a top prospect of the Cubs…so he can handle pinstripes. He is fast with occasional power…but sometimes can’t hit his weight. I don’t know why you would want him if the Orioles don’t.

in other words, a nobody overall,

melky must maintian position, unless santa brings an elf who can catch center, throm strong and hit 20+ HR.

Tejada out of the EAST, AND the AL? Wow, i’m surprised he would leave the AL.

In a round about way i’m happy that Yankees pitching won’t face this guy anymore — he’s not as potent as he once was, but still very good.

So basically Baltimore is having a player sale? Can we take Bedard and give you Moose and X? Let’s go!

Veras really scares me.

I also thought Gonzalez cold be a candidate after seeign Sardinho go.

i wish the yanks would win the WS in 2008
I wish the 3kids would pitch well next year

i wish the farm would keep producing 2009

i wish the tampons would fold away early 08

i wish the GM would sign young quality

i wish the starting pitching would hold up

i wish the yanks would keep big3 & santa

i wish the good looking 3B will repeat 07

i wish the next 10 years we win 8 rings ’34′

eid mubarik ya’ll

There’s no way Baltimore will trade Bedard to a team better than them already in their division, no way. Rowand had no chance to come to New York, he wanted too much and the Yankees have too many good OF in the frams. The Yankees, if they make the trade for Santana, will need a short term contract CF who wont kill them, hello Patterson. Patterson will not hurt them, he has pop and strikes out a lot, sounds like a young Soriano (agreed on a much lesser degree). If we make the deal (and thats a big IF) we’ll need a CF for one or two years as we groom Tebata or Jackson for the job. The Yankees do not need a bunch of big name overpaid has been FA, they need players that fit into roles, Hawkins fits the role of a veteran arm that was willing to sign short term Patterson may be another cheap short term option until our babies are ready for the big show, we’ll have to see.

Here’s a list of the top 30 Yankee Prospects going into this year. Joba and Hughes aren’t on it as they’re considered to be Big Leaguers, but Kennedy tops it, the rest is really interesting…
http://mvn.com/milb-yankees/2007/12/12/ej-fagan-fall-2007-prospect-list/

what about Jeter on first base, (sometimes) he is 34 and a big fellow. big guys who are infielders lot injuries around 35-36. arod set for ten at third.

“24. Zach McAllister, RHSP – In what kind of organization is this guy the 14th best pitching prospect? A stacked one.” – LOL. Looks like we have some serious talent in the pipeline.

Duncan,

Took the words out of my post. I completely agree that Jeter needs to move off of SS. It will add 5 years to his career. If he would move to 1b, he would be a virtual lock to pass Pete Rose’s hits record.

I don’t know about anyone else, but that list really got me pumped up. Thanks, Wholohan.

wholohan@uvm.edu, Its either Patterson or Cameron for exactly the reasons you listed.

I saw the Pinstripe list, it looks good! Who is EJ Fagan??

hello, all its good to be back in reality. i was clicking post when i got ****** into my computer.. yada yada yada… and now im back.

yea this list gets me pumped but i have a feeling after 10-15 he’s sort just making good saying up about them. like hes gonna “rise fast” or “could be great” But the top ten makes me very please.

-Time Traveler

oh definitly but I like looking at the actual position players in that are below all the pitching prospects we have.

anymore inside information for us tonight bpark?

The Cubs didn’t offer Mark Prior a contract for 2008. Do you guys think it would be worth it to try and sign him for the bullpen? Granted it’d be a risky choice knowing his past injuries although he does have tremendous talent, but if they could sign him to maybe a 1yr. more incentive-laden contract, do you think it’d be worth it?
